Leilani touched her friend’s arm. “That was Tish, wasn’t it? What’s wrong?”

Kiana shook her head. “Nothing you need to worry about. You have enough on your plate.”

Leilani frowned. “Honolulu can be dangerous. You know that.”

Kiana nodded. “I do. It’s why I left.”

“Is Tish in trouble?” Leilani asked.

“No.” Kiana sighed. “Meredith didn’t come home to the apartment.”

“Last night?” Leilani pressed.

“No,” Kiana’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Last week. She doesn’t usually disappear for that long. I’m worried she took some escort gigs to fill the gaps between modeling jobs.”

“Kiana,” Leilani grabbed her hand. “Call the cops. Some of those clients are dangerous.”

“Yeah. Even more of a reason for me to go. Meredith is too gullible and naïve to be an escort.”

“You can’t go alone,” Leilani said. “I—"

Angel stepped forward. “Don’t say it.”

Leilani frowned at Angel. “Don’t say what?”

“You can’t go with her. From the way it sounds, Kiana needs protection.”

Leilani cocked an eyebrow. “If you’d let me finish, I was going to say that I think she needs protection. Someone from the Brotherhood Protectors. That’s what they do.”

Kiana frowned. “I can’t step back into that life with a hulking bodyguard. A hulking pimp, maybe, but not a bodyguard. They’ll get suspicious right off the bat. Then they’ll clam up, and I won’t get any information about anyone.”

“You need a good-looking guy who can charm people into telling their deepest, darkest secrets,” Dev suggested.

Kiana’s eyebrows twisted. “Got one in mind?”

Dev poked a thumb at his chest. “Me.”

Kiana’s eyes narrowed. For a long moment, she stared at Dev, letting her gaze sweep over him from the top of his perfect hair to his designer shoes.

“Yeah, you might do,” she finally said. “Can you be ready at six?”

“That was my line,” he said with a grin.

“In the morning,” she said, arching a brow. “This is not a date. I’d be hiring you to protect me and help me look for Meredith.”

“That’s what we do,” Dev said.

“I don’t need a date. I don’t want a relationship. I’m not going to fall in love with you,” she said. “I’d appreciate it if you’d refrain from hitting on me, calling me sweetheart, and for God’s sake, don’t fancy yourself falling in love with me.”

He popped a salute. “Yes, ma’am.”

Kiana rolled her eyes. “And never call me ma’am.”

“Yes, ma’am...Kiana.” He grinned. “Looks like you’ve just hired a Brotherhood Protector.”

Kiana pinned him with a fierce stare. “Don’t make me regret it.”
