“That’s why this thing Brian and I are doing means so much to me. If we can get it off the ground, it could give so many dogs a chance. Make sure they’re healthy. Socialize them. We’ll hire trainers to work on behavioral issues caused by abandonment or bad owners. We’ll give them that love until they find a new home.”
An idea popped into Everly’s head. She rose up onto her knees in excitement. “Sundae’s Sanctuary.”
His brow wrinkled. “What?”
“The name for your program. Sundae’s Sanctuary.”
Logan’s eyes grew glassy, but a smile pulled at his lips. “It’s great.”
Everly sat back on her heels, her head racing as quickly as her heart. The joy on his face was a shot of helium into her system. She wanted to make him look like that all the time. Every second of every day. “Send me pictures of Sundae, or at least some reference photos of what he looked like, and I’ll work him into the logo.” The graphic was already forming in her head: a dog curled up in a ball, sleeping peacefully, his expression soft and relaxed, with the name above him in a dreamy cloud.
Grabbing a pen and a novel she’d left next to the couch, she flipped to one of the blank back pages and sketched it out. The happiness in Logan’s face shone a little brighter with each line she scratched across the paper.
“We could make Sundae a kind of mascot. Cartoony but with the essence of your dog. He could show up on different pages of the website, on your cards and materials. Maybe you could have some stuffed animals made for brand awareness.”
Logan pulled her in for a kiss. She sank into the sensation of his mouth on hers, letting herself get lost in it. In him.
When they pulled away, he shook his head, almost dumbfounded. “You’re brilliant.”
“I’m all right.”
But in her head, she was already creating a style sheet for the company, a presentation for her boss.
Because for once, she didn’t want to wave Logan’s compliment away. She didn’t want to deny it.
Because she believed it.
