The Boston office of New Mood Media was a funhouse hall of mirrors.
Everywhere Everly looked, her face stared back at her. From the façade of the skyscraper, in the marble tiles of the lobby, on the reflective glass of the entryway; you name it, and the evil queen from Snow White could use it to ask who was fairest of them all.
It had been almost a month since Everly agreed to be part ofOn the Plus Side’s third season, and even though her signed contracts were tucked in her purse, her heart was still tap-dancing against her ribs.
There had been too much time over the past few weeks for her to think. Too much time to worry about how she would come across on camera, if she’d embarrass herself, if the audience would care about her quiet little life. Her mom certainly hadn’t helped matters by responding to Everly’s announcement about the show with a very pointed “Why would you do that to yourself?”
But every time Everly thought about usingOTPSas a way to participate in the Collective, whenever she thought about how amazing it hadbeen to meet Jazzy and Stanton, and how comfortable she’d felt with them, her choice to be on the show felt more solid. It felt true to her. To the real Everly. The one she spent far too much time squashing down these days.
As she waited for the elevator to make its snail-slow descent from the top floor, she scrolled through theOTPSforums on Read-It and tapped open one of the more popular posts.

Right???? Someone I know from college went on one of those bachelor-ish shows and she said you get almost no time to yourself, and you’re never alone, and the whole thing was so stressful

But for those shows you live on location and are filming the whole season. With OTPS, they come to you and they’re only there for a few weeks.
Who wouldn’t want to spend a few weeks with Jazzy and Stanton??!?!?! I bet they’re a complete DELIGHT!!
