She giggles. “Good luck.” He leaves us to our own devices.

“Who is Everett?”

“His youngest brother. He wasn’t at the wedding—he had a work thing.”

I nod. “So that’s four brothers? Big family.”

“And a sister. She’s the baby of the family. I haven’t met her yet. She’s on some round-the-world trip.” Lily shrugs. “The MacMillans are a quirky bunch.”

“Seems like you’ve found your people. I’m so happy for you, and not jealous whatsoever.”

She laughs. “Hey, that’s why I invited you, right? Come on. Let’s go dance and find you your people.” She hooks my arm and drags me onto the dance floor.

The truth is, my feet hurt. I borrowed Mom’s shoes too, and she’s got narrow feet. I didn’t have anything appropriate for the dress, so I’m sucking it up. But dancing with Lily is fun, so I won’t pass it up. She’s not great at it, and she’s not self-conscious, either. It’s like dancing with Owen—goofy and carefree.

She notes, “I still can’t believe that’s my husband.”

“He’s a cutie. You did good.”

“Youdid good by setting me up with him.”

I laugh. “I did nothing of the sort. All I did was get you to nanny for him. Trust me when I say I had no clue you two would hit it off the way you did.”

She can’t stop making googly eyes at her husband over my shoulder. “I swear, it’s like we hit it off every night.”

“The sex, you mean?”

“It should be illegal.”

I roll my eyes and beam at her. “Okay, I get it. He’s a sex god.”

“And Elsie says the same thing about Beau. Maybe it’s a family trait.”

“I’ll never know.”

“Ooo, maybe you will. See the guy standing with Cormac? That’s Everett, and he’s single.”

I turn around and focus on Cormac at the edge of the crowd. Standing next to him is Owen’s father, and the entire world stops moving. There is no more air in the ballroom, and the sound drains out of my ears.

What the fuck.

Everett

Five minutes ago…

The dancing streak of bright red curls had caught my eyes before I even realized why. The girl I’d met at a downtown bar the night before my life changed had hair just like that. She moved like that, too. Like a sexy pendulum. I can’t take my eyes off her, but all I get is the view of her backside. Not that I’m complaining.

“Earth to Everett,” Cormac says at my shoulder.

I blink to break the spell. “Sorry. What were you saying?”

“Oh, don’t tell me. You have your eye on Lily’s friend?”

“Who?”
