“You’re not making sense, Andrea. I haven’t had any coffee yet, so maybe call back later when I—”

“Wait, wait, wait…” she says quickly, and the sound rattles down the line, making me flinch. “Are you seriously telling me you don’t know?”

We’re going around in circles here. She’s talking riddles. “Know what?”

“It’s all over the news, Sienna. The internet is blowing up over this.” She sounds frantic, causing fear to slither through my veins. “I can’t believe you haven’t seen it.”

An intense feeling of dread creeps through me. “Seenwhat?”

“The sex tape. Of you. And Kael.”

The bathroom door suddenly opens, and Kael walks into the bedroom, his chest pink and damp from his shower. He has a bath towel tied tightly around his waist. He says something to me, but I don’t hear him, and when I don’t answer him he looks up and sees me talking on the phone.

“Oh, sorry,” he mouths.

“A sex tape?” I shriek. All the blood drains clean from my face, leaving me feeling dizzy and disoriented. “What do you mean a sex tape? We never made a sex tape!”

I glance across at Kael again who’s now standing completely still in the middle of the room. His eyes are narrowed in on me as he tries to follow the one-sided conversation.

“What’s going on?” he asks.

I shake my head because I have no idea what’s going on. And even if I did know what was going on, I have no idea how I’d go about explaining it.

I sit on the end of the bed, gripping the edge of the mattress so I don’t slide off. Fear quakes through my body.

Andrea’s still talking in my ear. “It’s all over the internet,” she says again. “It’s the top story on the gossip websites. I’m betting it won’t be long before you’ve got reporters camped out on your doorstep. Whatthe hellwere you thinking?”

“I wasn’t thinking, I mean… I didn’t… we, I… we didn’t do it. Are you sure it’s me? Are you sure it’s Kael? There must be some kind of mistake,” I protest, my entire body shaking.

“I’m sending you the link right now.”

I glance at Kael. He’s still just standing in the middle of the room, staring back at me like I’m talking a foreign language that he doesn’t understand. Maybe I am because that’s how it feels to me, too. It feels like I’m slipping. It feels like I’m falling. This is all so foreign to me.

I point to the window, wanting him to take a peek outside to see if she’s right about the reporters. “Is there anyone outside?”

Kael snaps out of his trance and jogs across the room. He throws back the curtains and opens the window. Leaning out to look over the street below, his head quickly jerks back and now he’s covering his eyes, momentarily blinded by bright camera flashes.

“Fucking hell,” he grumbles, shaking his head adamantly.

“Andrea, I’ll call you back.”

I hang up on her and hurry across the room to stand beside Kael at the window, and when I look outside, I can see there’s a swarm of people gathered on the sidewalk. No wonder they call it a media circus because what I’m looking at right now is nothing short of a circus. These people are animals. It’s insane.

It can’t be true. No. God,pleaseno.

A seemingly never-ending list of questions drift up to the second story from the street below, and I run my hands back through my hair, not sure where to look or what to think.

“Kael, can you give us her name?”

“Kael, did you do this for publicity?”

“Are you still playing with Cold Neptune?”

“Did she know she was being filmed?”

“Is she a hooker?”

Kael curses quietly under his breath, digging around in his jeans that are still lying on the floor next to his shirt and boots where he discarded them last night. He pulls his phone out and then disappears wordlessly with his phone pressed tightly to his ear, running down the stairs with heavy feet, and I’m left standing alone in my bedroom practically hyperventilating.
