“Oh, are they okay?”

“Yes,” Raashi replied. “Tell me about you. Why are you awake so late?”

“It’s just one of those nights, Raashi.”

“Please tell me this is not about Rohan.”

Her heart clenched. Damn, her sister was too sharp.

“Why does this have to be about him?” Jiya countered.

“Because you fought with me forhim. You left Mumbai and took a job in Delhi forhim. And now you’re up in the middle of the night. What am I to think?”

“That maybe I was missing my sister?”

Raashi sighed. “I miss you too, you know…so much. I don’t want to be mad at you.”

“Then don’t. I’m fine here, Raashi. The work’s good, and I actually like living here. The house is nice. And Akash is here too. Did you know that?”

“He’s already been instructed by Keya and me to keep a watch on you.”

She rolled her eyes. Of course, her sister would have done such a thing. “I’m not a child, you know. I don’t need you protecting me always.”

“Protecting you has been my job since…since our parents passed away,” Raashi said softly, looking sad. “I only want you to be safe and not get hurt ever.”

Jiya understood that. She really did.

“I know, and I love you for it,” Jiya replied. “But I need to make my own place in the world too. I hope you understand and allow me to do that.”

“I am trying, Jiya. I love you too, you know.”

“Does that mean we are not fighting anymore?”

“No, we aren’t. I have to accept that my kid sister is all grown up and ready for the world. I have to accept that I may not like your choices, but I must respect them.”

Jiya chuckled. “Sameer’s been talking to you, right?”

“Yes.”

“He’s the best,” Jiya said. “He’s made our lives better since the day he fell for you. I don’t tell him enough, but I am thankful for him every day.”

“Me too. But I meant what I said, Jiya. I will respect your decisions, whatever they may be. If you need me, I am only a call away.”

“Thank you, big sis.”

“And if you want to quit and return, then I promise not to give you a hard time about it.”

Jiya scowled. “I’m not quitting, Raashi. I just joined.”

“I know. I’m just saying,” her sister placated. “Come to Mumbai soon. I miss you; the babies also miss you.”

“I will. Or you all could come to meet me here.”

A figure appeared behind her sister. It was Sameer. He sat a step above his wife, pulling her between his legs. He kissed his wife’s cheek. “Hey, beautiful. I was missing you.”

Raashi’s eyes sparkled. Sameer leaned in closer to the camera and waved at Jiya. Jiya grinned and waved back.

“I gotta go. Sameer’s found me sitting on the stairs chatting with you,” Raashi laughed, her camera going out of focus. “Sameer, stop tickling me.”
