Rohan internally fought with himself. He hated seeing his parents with that couple. He had to do something and get them away from the influence of those horrid people. Vaibhav and Diksha had never cared for him, but these people, Varun and Tara, were his world. He’d die before he’d let those snakes enter into their lives.

Jiya’s words echoed in his mind.

What you need to realize is that for the latter seventeen years of your life, you lived with Varun and Tara. They are your parents too.

You’re too stuck in your past…

He finally understood what she’d been trying to tell him. He’d been such a fool all his life. Tara and Varun were his parents. They’d given him normalcy and a family. He’d always cared for them, but underneath his care and concern lay a deeper feeling…it was love. For so long, he’d thought himself incapable of loving, but he’d been wrong.

He touched his heart. What he thought had been missing from his life had always been there, just that he had been too oblivious to it. What he felt for his parents was love…what he felt for his brother was love…and what he’d always felt for Jiya, right from the beginning… It was love.

He loved her; he finally accepted it. Everything began to make sense now. Love was the reason why he cared so much about her. It was why he’d let her go, why he didn’t want her hurt, and also why he hated seeing her with another man.

He’d loved her for so long. Accepting it finally felt so freeing. It gave him wings. It made him strong. All his senses that had shut down on seeing that couple fired back to life. He was no longer that afraid boy, hiding in his bedroom. He was a strong, grown man who would fight for those he loved with every breath he had.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Nandini whisper in his father’s ear, and that was it. Rohan couldn’t stay silent any more. He took a step forward, stopping short when a little boy rushed up to Rohan’s parents. Arnav—Rithwik’s son.

From beyond him, Rithwik and Aisha were entering the restaurant from the other entrance, wheeling in a baby stroller. His little nephew tugged his grandmother’s trousers, and Rohan smiled at that familiar scenario. Rohan’s mom leaned down and lifted Arnav in her arms.

From next to her, Pavan moved closer to Arnav, and every inch of Rohan screamed in agony. Anger exploded through him. He stormed toward them. His mother spotted him first. She must have seen the thunder on his face because her brows puckered.

Pavan lifted his hand to touch Arnav’s cheek.

“Don’t you dare touch him!” Rohan growled.

Everyone paused.

Pavan chuckled. “Rohan, how possessive you are! I was just telling Tara what a lovely child he is.”

The man raised his hand to touch Arnav’s cheek, and Rohan grabbed his hand, lowering it. “If you try and touch my nephew again, Iwillbreak your hand.”

“What is wrong with you?” Nandini squeaked.

“Step away from my son,” Rithwik said, coming to stand next to Rohan.

“Your brother is behaving insane,” Pavan said. “I wasn’t going to hurt him.”

Rithwik straightened. “My brother never says or does things without a reason. And while I may not know why he wants to keep my child away from you, I do believe his concern is valid. Hence back off from my boy right now.”

Seeing Rithwik stand up for him even without knowing his reasoning further proved how mistaken Rohan had been about his own feelings for his twin.

Pavan shrugged out of Rohan’s hold and raised his hands in the air. “Why this drama, Rohan? You weren’t like this as a child.”

Rohan’s blood turned cold. This man…he was pretending as if… He’d conveniently forgotten…

“Drama?” Rohan stormed. “I assure you it wasn’t drama when you almost molested me as a child.”

His own words hit him hard. His chest felt like it was going to explode. His breaths came out harsher. He’d never uttered these words before, but they had to be spoken today.

His mother gasped. She immediately backed several steps away from Pavan. Aisha wheeled Raisa’s stroller next to his mom and immediately stood in front of her—a mother protecting her children. His heart warmed seeing that. This was how mothers ought to behave. Sadly, his own birth mother had never protected him.

Varun cleared his throat. “Rohan, is that true?”

“He’s lying,” Pavan said. “I never touched him.”

“Of course he is lying,” Nandini placated her husband.

“My son is not a liar,” Tara voiced from behind Aisha. She handed Arnav to her and took a step forward, her head held high. “I believe him. I’d believe him over anyone.”
