“Eventually. First, I think I might stop by Nat’s grave,” she told him, lifting her hand to touch the paintbrush charm that Lucy had sent to her all those years ago. She’d placed it on a silver necklace as a reminder that not all her memories were bad. In fact, some of them were wonderful. “I never did get the chance to say goodbye. It would be nice to have . . .” She shrugged. “Not closure. I’ll never accept her death or forgive Mark for what he did. But the ability to remember how much she touched my life.”

Niko’s lips curved in a slow smile. “If you need a place to stay while you’re in Kansas City, I have a suggestion.”

She met his steady gaze. “Your office?”

“Or my condo.” He stepped toward her, surrounding her in his fresh male scent. “I can show you my paintings.”

“True.” She chuckled as he turned the old, clichéd line into a genuine temptation. It would genuinely be nice to view her paintings in his home. “I haven’t seen them for a while.”

“They missed you.” He brushed his fingers down her cheek in a soft caress. “And so did I.”

“I suppose I could stay for a few days,” she murmured.

“Or longer,” he added.

She shook her head in resignation. “Pushy.”

He leaned down to press his lips against her mouth. “Always.”
