He hasn’t come here to remind us he’s the man of the house. He came to get the revenge he so desperately seeks.

“Leave now before you do something you’ll regret.” I want nothing more than him to have some common sense and get out of here. I know it won’t happen. We all know how he is. You can put a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but at the end of the day, the wolf is still there.

Loren snickers and comes charging at me like a mad bull. In the blink of an eye, he’s knocking me down and pinning me on the ground. My heart races as he looms over me, afraid of what he’s going to do next.

“Mom, run!” I scream with desperation at the top of my lungs, watching my mother running as fast as she can.

“You dumb little girl. All you ever were was a foolish brat. Why should I expect any different?” Loren seethes, using the force of his weight to crush down on me. He’s hovering over top of me, pushing the blade against my skin. The cold metal cuts through my skin, and I scream out in pain.

I can’t let him do this.

I can’t let him overpower me. If I do, I’m as good as dead.

I think about any vantage point I might have, seeing one solid option. I use all of my strength and kick him in the balls. Not once, but twice. Loren stumbles backward, and this is my opportunity. I kick the blade out of his hand, shooting it down the hallway. The least I can do is make sure he’s unarmed.

With no time to spare, I scramble to gain my footing and get the hell out of here. I run as fast as my feet can carry me, adrenaline pumping through my veins.

My escape is my only chance at survival.

When I get out of the house, my mother is already behind the wheel. I hit the first step, and without warning, I’m being yanked backward by my hair. My head slams against the siding of the house with the force Loren’s using. He doesn’t waste any time, landing a brutal punch to my face.

Looking for any way to get out of this, I grab hold of a two-by-four to my right of the door and swing it, whipping it under his chin, knocking him back in the process. I have to get the fuck out of here, and now!

Searing pain radiates from the back of my head to where Loren punched me, but I have to ignore it. I don’t have time to give in to the pain. I run as fast as I can to the car, flinging the passenger side door open, and before I even get the chance to close it, my mom hits the gas in reverse.

We can escape this nightmare, but we have to do it quickly.

She turns the car around and floors it, pushing my car to its limit. Once we’re on the road, she looks right at me. “Where do we go? What do we do?”

“Dag. We have to go to Dag,” I wheeze, struggling to catch my breath.

“He’s six hours away,” Mom says it like I don’t already know he is.

“Yeah, but we need his help. We need the Raiders of Valhalla’s protection.” We need help, and they’re our only hope. They’re the only people who will actually be able to protect us. The police might say they will, but they won’t.

The way I see it, there isn’t another way around it. We’ve tried to keep ourselves separated from his motorcycle club, but we don’t have a choice.

They’re our last hope, and we need them now more than ever.

CHAPTERONE

Magnus

Present Day . . .

I’m ready to stir up some chaos tonight. The fire in my veins has been smoldering for too long, and I’m craving the release that comes with a few shots of liquid courage and indulging in some questionable activities. Maybe I’ll even ruffle a few feathers and piss some people off along the way. But, there’s one thing I crave more than anything else—Rayna.

The days have been passing by at an alarming rate, fading together into one incomprehensible blur. It’s as if time is trying to escape from me. Perhaps it’s because our club has undergone so many transformations and challenges as of late. We’re a tight-knit family bound by loyalty and brotherhood. Over the course of the year, so many things have happened. We’ve faced each of them together, without a doubt.

The days have been such a blur, filled with work, club drama, and responsibilities. But it’s New Year’s Eve, so of course we have to celebrate.

Tonight is the night we throw the party of a lifetime, a real rager! We haven’t had one in far too long. Rock music is pumping, the lights are flashing across the main area, and every inch of the clubhouse is filled with laughter and excitement.

Luckily, our children are happily playing together under the watchful eye of their babysitter at Fenrir and Charm’s house, giving us the chance to let loose and have some fun.

Rati bursts through the door of the clubhouse, letting out a loud “Ayyy!” and balances two stacks of boxes in his hands.

Vanir follows closely behind him, also carrying two boxes, while Tor trailed behind them with boxes in his grasp as well. They all make their way to the bar area, placing the boxes on top of the wooden bar I made. Woodworking and craftsmanship are two of my favorite hobbies. I find it very peaceful, so if anyone here needs something done, I always volunteer.
