“So, what’s on the agenda, Mom? Is there anything Bridgit or Henry need for the nuptials on Saturday?” I asked her, rushing to get back on track.

My mother pursed her lips. “Bridgit and Gavin have it under control. Henry and his family will arrive tomorrow before the rehearsal dinner. We have a most excellent wedding planner. Cocktails tonight are at seven, and dinner at nine.” She plastered a tight smile on her lips. “I’m sure they have your room ready by now, Mr. Markovich. I hope it’s to your satisfaction.”

For a split second I thought all hell was going to break loose. There was a devious look on Viktor’s face, one I knew all too well. Some of the most epic—and most disastrous—events with Sophia had been when her big brother had come to town flashing that look. He’s going to tell her he’s staying here!It was something he would do, and I wouldn’t put it past him at this point.

Instead, he replied dismissively, “Thanks, but Bri and I are going to check out the resort.”

My mother inclined her head slightly and left without another word.

I let out a long sigh and slipped out from under his grasp. “I thought for a second you were going to tell her you were shacking up with me!”

Viktor laughed darkly. “I was. But I could feel the anxiety gnawing at you, so I changed my mind.”

“I should have known better,” I ground out, walking to the wet bar. I grabbed a bottle of water and chugged. “What the hell is with all the touching? I specifically told you—”

“I’m here, saving your ass. I’ll touch what’s mine,” he said with a hard edge.

How could I expect him to play within the rules? I wanted to grind my palms into my eye sockets but doing that would muss my makeup. “I’m not yours, Tor,” I snapped, shutting my eyes for a blissful second.

By the time I opened them again, Viktor had swept forward with that otherworldly silent tread. He bent down, bringing his face within inches of mine. “For this weekend, yes you are, suits. You’re mine.”

And with that, he wrapped his hand around the side of my neck, face hovering dangerously close to mine. His other arm was a vice, pulling me into his hard body. We remained there, staring at one another.

“You make me so fucking angry,” I hissed, hands braced against his body.

“Good, then you’ll hate me for this.” And then he kissed me.

My hands clenched, ready to pummel him. Instead, they fisted his dress shirt. A traitorous moan escaped my mouth, and he deepened the kiss. My eyes fluttered shut as I surrendered to his hard mouth.

The kiss was vicious, demanding. Our bodies clashed like our words did in our verbal spats. Except this frustration was different. It was laced with frenzy and fire. I tugged on his shirt, damn near climbing his body.

Viktor bent me backward, forcing me to slide my arms around him for support. I moaned again, and this time it was an invitation for him to slip his tongue into my mouth. It plunged inside, exploring and claiming my mouth. I kissed him back for all I was worth, completely lost to the explosion of desire blazing between us.

Before I could strip him bare, Viktor straightened, and we separated a moment later. A sharp gasp escaped my lungs; I was glad to see Viktor was also breathing hard.

“What the hell was that?” I demanded, voice all high and squeaky.

“You liked it.” The devil had the audacity to smirk!

Something flashed inside me. “Oh, yeah? Fine!” I snatched his tie and yanked him down to my level, pressing my lips against his in a searing kiss. I then captured his bottom lip between my teeth and dragged slowly back from him until, with a pop, he was free. “Two can play at this game,” I hissed.

“Damn, Bri, you’re playing with fire.”

“No, I’m not. And that’s not happening ever again.”

Viktor snorted. “Admit it, you’ve always wondered what it would be like between us.”

The obnoxious ass! How did he know...? Well, it didn't matter, because I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of admitting it. What was done was done—I’d kissed Viktor Markovich, and now I could grow old never having to wonder what it felt like. Choosing to ignore his statement, I said sharply, “Let’s go get a lay of the land.”

Viktor laughed as he brushed a hand through his short, dark hair. “I’m here to be a cover for you, but I’ve got an ulterior motive, suits.”

“Of course, you do,” I muttered, smoothing my clothes. “What is it?”

“I’m going to bring you out of your shell.” Viktor chucked me under the chin. “And it’s already working.”
