Her lips stretched in a wicked grin. “Hell, yes.”

RORY

Thirty minutes later,I was sitting on a kitchen chair in the bathroom, my knees squished to my chest as Kyla chopped a bit next to my ear.

I stared at myself in the mirror, trying to wrap my mind around the new look.

The longest pieces of my hair fell to the middle of my neck, and it was shorter in the back. The cut definitely wasn’t symmetrical, or even in any way, but it was there.

And hot damn, I looked different.

Stronger.

Bolder.

Free.

I looked free.

I lifted my trembling fingers to the length of it, and watched in the mirror as my fingers slipped through the soft, short ends.

“What the hell did you do?” Ezra’s shocked voice made both of our heads jerk to the doorway of the bathroom.

“She wanted a haircut,” Kyla said, at the same time I said,

“I needed a change.”

Our eyes met for a moment, and we both burst out laughing.

It wasn’t even that funny, but damn, we laughed until tears were streaking down our faces. Ezra looked at us like we were insane, until she finally snagged the large kitchen scissors from Kyla.

“You guys are insane. You know most of the men have been cutting each other’s hair for centuries, right? Pretty much any of them could’ve done this for you, and then it wouldn’t be so…” she trailed off.

“Messy?” Kyla suggested helpfully.

“Jagged?” I supplied.

“Uneven?” Kyla added.

“All of the above,” she agreed.

“I like it,” I said, turning back to the mirror and turning my head.

Yeah, it would be better without some of the protruding long chunks, and maybe with some layers so the ends didn’t look so thick and chunky. But it was still so different, I couldn’t help but love it.

I wasn’t my old self anymore. It was time to be Rory 2.0. The fiercer, more real version of myself. The version no one else could ever control.

“Want me to ask Ivaylo to fix it?” Ezra checked. “Er, even it out?”

Ivaylo was her gigantic mate, with the light gray eyes and shaggy hair. Did I want his hands in my hair?

Hell no.

I nearly shuddered at the idea.

“I don’t think that would be a good call, considering the possessive furball waiting for her outside.” Kyla gestured toward the exit.
