Veil, she was stunning.

Andmine.

“Find a seat!” Ezra commanded. “One woman at each table to start off with. If you don’t know how the tournament works, the guys will teach you.”

The girls split up, and I strode across the room. Two bastards had already claimed the seats on either side of Aurora by the time I reached her table, but her smile was so damn huge, I couldn’t toss one of them out.

Settling down across the table from her, I listened to Ev explain the rules of the game. It annoyed me that I couldn’t speak into Rory’s mind any longer, but I knew I needed to keep that feeling capped.

Allen had treated her terribly when she was even slightly friendly to other men, so I had to show her I could keep my emotions in check. The possessiveness, in particular.

That would’ve been easier if she was sitting on my lap, of course, but I could still smell my scent intertwined with hers. And if I could smell it, everyone else at the table certainly could as well.

Her foot brushed my leg beneath the table once, as she asked questions about the instructions. I didn’t think much of it.

When it brushed my calf again, more slowly, her eyes met mine and she flashed me a small grin.

The lingering annoyance I’d carried faded, and I mirrored the expression.

She was still mine, and we both knew it.

The game began, and we all played our cards a few times.

Two of the guys were out after the first round, one of them in the seat beside Aurora’s. I considered claiming it, but her feet were touching mine, and she was only making casual conversation with the other guys. So, I remained where I was, and the chair was quickly filled with another male.

She greeted him, introducing herself and trying to remember his name. When their brief chat ended, she flashed me a brilliant smile that made me more certain I’d made the right decision.

Regardless of who she sat beside, she was mine.

That was what mattered.

An argument broke out across the room after the next round, and we all looked in time to watch one of our packmates throw a punch. The other caught a fist in his eye, before tackling the first to the ground and slamming his own fist into the first’s face.

Aurora’s eyes widened at the violence, and I brushed my foot against her leg. I was trying to let her know silently that she wasn’t alone, and I wouldn’t let anyone hurt her.

“Both of you are out,” Ivaylo growled, as Ezra quickly crossed the room and uncovered two large hats. They were both cylindrical, and the tops of them were nearly exploding with the feather boas we were all wearing. They hung around it like odd, fuzzy chunks of hair.

Aurora covered her mouth to stop a laugh. We exchanged another set of grins, and her face remained slightly pink.

Thankfully, she didn’t seem afraid after the fight.

And veil, I didn’t think I’d ever seen her sohappy.

I’d sit across from her every day, if it made her smile like that.

“You fought; now, you wear the hats of punishment,” Ezra declared, carrying the massive, fuzzy things over to the guys.

Both took them without protest, wiping blood off their faces and setting the hats on their heads.

They looked even more ridiculous than I expected, and a few of the girls burst out laughing.

A few of the men followed, and I found my own grin widening at the humor on Aurora’s face.

The game resumed soon enough, and we made it through two more rounds before my female was out.

She left her chair, and chatted with a few of the guys while I played through another two rounds. When I came out the victor, she walked over to me and draped her arms around my shoulders, leaning close.

My body relaxed with her presence, and the clear evidence to all of the men in the room that she considered herself mine as much as I did.
