So, it was time for me to be his friend too.

I wasn’t sure how well that would go over with him, after so many months of me putting in zero effort, but I’d figure it out.

I had also never pursued a man myself, so… yeah.

We’d see how it went.

RORY

I waited for an hour, trying to come up with ways to win him over, and hatched the beginning of a plan while I sat there. The sitting got old, though, and I wasn’t sure how long I’d be waiting outside, which made me feel a little less certain about everything.

Another hour or so passed before I heard feet on the dirt behind me, and turned my head. I found Ezra padding toward me. Her long, bright red hair fell loosely over her shoulders and chest, and the huge, gray shirt she wore clearly belonged to Ivaylo.

“Hey, Valko told me you walked this way a while ago,” she said, flashing me a quick smile as she covered the distance between us and plopped down on the dirt. “What’s up?”

My throat swelled a little as my mind went back to my conversation with the beta. “Amarok is having a hard day, and I didn’t realize.”

She gave me a sad smile. “The guys have those sometimes.”

I nodded, looking back out at the trees and blinking quickly. “I’ve been a shitty mate, and a shittier friend to him.”

“In your defense, you didn’t ask to be brought here.” Ezra’s shoulder bumped mine gently. “No one expected you to adjust quickly or easily, Rory.”

“I love it here, though. This place saved me. Allen would’ve killed me eventually, if Serae hadn’t gotten me out. And the transition might’ve been difficult if Amarok wasn’t so good to me—or so determined to make it easy. But he made it simple, and never asked me for anything.”

“He’s a good guy.”

“The best,” I wrapped my arms around my knees, pulling them to my chest. “If you were going to seduce a werewolf, or convince him that you wanted to be with him, how would you do it?”

She laughed. “You don’t really have to seduce a werewolf. They want you just because you exist.”

My lips curved upward. “I know. But I’ve convinced him pretty thoroughly that I need to set the pace, and I think it’s going to take more than words to make him realize that I don’t want the relationship to stay one-sided.”

“Hmm.” She considered it. “Bringing him into your den would be a good first step, or moving into his. Having you in their space is really big for the guys.”

I nodded.

I’d already figured out that much, and planned for it.

“Making desserts for him is another big one. The guys love taking care of us, but they want to be taken care of too, even if they won’t admit it. The women in the other pack told me that in a traditional male/female shifter relationship, the man takes care of the woman’s needs. The woman brings him the light and color he’s been missing without her, by making treats, playing games, being spontaneous to balance out the guys’ seriousness… stuff like that.”

Hmm.

Amarok definitely wasn’t spontaneous, by any definition of the word. Neither was I, truthfully.

But I could try.

And desserts, I could definitely handle. I cooked for the other human women fairly often, but never for him, because he’d never wanted me to.

Ezra finished with, “So, I guess if I was setting out to seduce a wolf shifter, I’d probably move my shit into his den and start baking desserts a lot. Without clothes on, as often as possible. I’d enthusiastically eat everything he cooked for me, too, and ask him to take me places under the guise of seeing more of his world, so we could spend more time together. I’d probably run with him in his wolf form a lot, too.”

“Should I be concerned that you’re planning how to woo another male, Ez?” Ivyalo rumbled.

Both of us jerked our heads as he stepped out beside the tree our backs were resting against. Despite his words, his lips were curved upward a little.

“Definitely. I desperately needanotherman following me into the forest every time I tell him to give me a few minutes. And to occupy me in bed—because you’re not insatiable enough,” she drawled.
