“Aurora?” Amarok sounded cautious.

“Hey!” I forced myself to act a hell of a lot more confident than I felt, and tugged the lever the rest of the way open.

Though I wanted to hurry back to the kitchen and throw myself into baking again, I forced myself to wait while he jumped into the den, landing smoothly.

His eyes were a bit red, but neither of us mentioned it as they moved quickly over my body. He was making sure I was okay, though I didn’t know why. “What happened? Did someone make you feel unsafe while I was gone?”

“What? No, of course not.”

“Then what are you doing here?” His nostrils flared, and his gaze jerked to the kitchen. “Are those olinivs?”

“Yep!” I ignored his first question, giving him a quick hug before striding back toward my dough. My mind moved quickly, struggling to come up with a decent way to tell him that I had moved in.

His feet were silent, but I felt his attention leave me for a moment. When I peeked over my shoulder, I saw him glance at the bathroom before stepping into the doorway of the closet, and freezing.

My attention jerked back to the pastries, and I shoved my hands back into the dough, working on forming another ball into the strange shape I needed for them. Mine definitely didn’t turn out as perfectly as the ones I’d seen at Casino Night, or the ones I’d watched Ezra make, but I hadn’t been trained by the older shifter women like she had.

I felt his attention again, and a moment later, he was leaned up against the cabinets to my right. “Aurora?” His voice was low, and gruff. “Your clothes are in my closet.”

I lifted my gaze to his, and gave him another quick smile. “Your offer to move in together still stands, right? We could always move to my den if you want, but nothing is as nice there, and I don’t have a bathtub. Your tub is like something out of a dream, so I thought I—”

He cut me off by pulling me into a hug. A tight, fierce hug.

A soft, relieved breath escaped me as I wrapped my arms around him too. I hugged him back as tightly as I could without squashing the weird shape of my pastry dough against his back.

“Of course it stands,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

“Good.” I brushed my lips to his throat, and felt his cock harden quickly against my abdomen.

I wanted to ask him why he’d needed to leave and why his eyes were red like he’d been crying. But, I knew I couldn’t push him to share whatever he’d been through. I needed to show him he could trust me with it, and give him time to want to tell me about it. “You know tomorrow is the eclipse, right?”

“I thought you’d want to spend it alone.” He released me, and my throat swelled as I returned to my pastries.

“Why would I want to spend it alone?”

“You wanted time to adjust.”

Right.

“I had enough time,” I said simply.

When I glanced up at his eyes again, he didn’t look convinced.

Not even a little.

“I didn’t see your bedding,” he said, instead of admitting that.

“I figured I didn’t need it.”

His chest rumbled unhappily. “Your scent is on it, Aurora.”

“Alright, I’ll go grab it after I finish the rest of these.” I lifted the misshaped dough.

“I’ll take care of it.” He strode back to the ladder, and I squeezed my eyes shut as I heard him leave.

“Dammit,” I whispered, dropping the pastry on the sheet and grabbing another chunk of dough.

I should’ve realized he wouldn’t be thrilled to find me making myself at home in his den when he was having a shitty day. I should’ve known he wouldn’t be comfortable coming to me with something difficult after I’d left so much space between us, too.
