Sitting down on the mattress, I closed my eyes and gave myself a few more minutes to wrap my mind around what had happened.

I’d spent the day reliving the past. When I got home, I followed her scent back to her den, then back to mine.

Her presence there caught me off guard, but that didn’t mean it was a bad thing.

I wasn’t sure what had changed to make her want to move in—and I clearly needed to ask her—but it was still good that she had.

Very, very good.

I could get used to coming home to the sight of my mate in my den.

Ourden.

After a few more minutes, I gathered the rest of her things and headed home.

RORY

I madea mental list of possible ways to make Amarok’s night better while I waited for him to come back. Clearly, the desserts hadn’t been as much of a hit as I had hoped. It seemed like a miracle he hadn’t dragged my ass back to my den and abandoned me there, so…

Yeah.

I’d messed up.

In multiple ways, as far as I could tell.

I wasn’t used to needing to redeem myself, but I’d figure it out. I’d apologize, or fix it somehow.

Hopefully.

I was scrubbing the dishes while the first pan of my pastries cooled, when Amarok finally came back. He’d been gone so long, I almost worried he’d made a run for it.

I looked over my shoulder at him as he pulled the lever to lock us in, his arms full of my bedding.

When he caught me looking, he gave me a small smile.

That eased the fear in my chest, just a little. “Sorry, I didn’t think about that stuff smelling like me. Thanks for grabbing it.”

His chest rumbled. “Of course.”

I turned back to my dishes, and he put my things away before joining me in the kitchen.

Rather than pulling my hands from the sink like I half-expected him to, he set his palms lightly on my waist.

My body flushed with the contact. I’d been at war with my lust for the man since the last damn eclipse, but hadn’t let myself do anything about it.

“I’m sorry I didn’t react well when I got back. You caught me off guard,” he said quietly.

“It’s alright. I should’ve asked you before just bringing my stuff over and making myself at home. I know a shifter’s den is sacred to you guys.”

“It’s far more sacred with you in it, Aurora.” He squeezed my hips lightly. “Are the olinivs for the new humans?”

“Oh, no. They’re for you. A welcome home present, I guess. To ease the fact that I moved in without asking, maybe?” I bit my lip. “The shape is wrong, I know. And I think I was supposed to wait another minute before dunking them in the icing, so they’re mushier than Ezra’s, but—”

He let go of my hip with one hand, plucked a pastry off the drying rack, and took a bite. His chest rumbled with appreciation, and I relaxed more. “They don’t need to look perfect to taste good. Thank you.”

I nodded, and resumed washing the dishes.
