We all shifted together, and my mate’s side brushed mine.

As it did, I couldn’t help but realize the truth:

I was finally looking forward to the future, too.

AMAROK—MANY YEARS LATER

“Stop feeding me,”Aurora complained, nestled in close to my side in the corner of the pack’s den.

I couldn’t help my grin.

My mate had become the pack’s doctor as more of the mated females started having pups, but considering she was going to have our baby in the next few weeks, I had insisted she take the day off.

My definition of that involved her eating a lot.

Hers involved running. A lot of running.

We’d settled the debated by deciding that she would eat, then we would run, and finally, we would eat more.

We were on the third step of that plan, and she was refusing to take the last two bites of the last olinov I was feeding her.

“I swear, I’m going to puke if I take another bite,” she sighed, leaning against me. “This baby needs to be evicted, pronto.”

“She’ll come out when she’s ready.” I brushed a kiss to her forehead.

“I know. I just wanted her to be ready last week.”

I played with her hair as we watched a group of pups run around the den. The center of it had been cleared out for the most part, with climbing toys placed strategically around the space.

“They’re so adorable,” she said, her gaze following the little girls. “I can’t believe we’re going to be parents.”

“Neither can I.”

“Have you thought about names?”

I made a noncommittal noise. “I’m not picky.”

“I’ve been thinking…” She bit her lip.

“Tell me.” I tugged her hair lightly, and her lips curved upward in a small smile.

“We could call her Arovva. After your brother. Valko’s mom was telling me that it’s a popular name among shifter women, and I thought she would like to have a connection to them too, since we don’t have any blood family.”

Emotion swelled in my chest. Pride and love, warring. “I would love that.”

She smiled, lifting her lips to mine and kissing me lightly. “It’s settled, then.”

I murmured my agreement, lifting her onto my lap. She laughed, leaning her head back against me as she settled into place. “I love you, Amarok.”

“I love you too.”

Fuck, I was glad I had fought Immis as long as I had. Having her in my arms was worth every damn moment of pain I suffered.
