Instead of getting angry, I am amused at her act of threatening me, though she isn’t doing nearly as great a job as she thinks she is. Nevertheless, her concern for Alisha has me smiling.

Once I step in, I notice her conversing withthe group of ladies she is talking to earlier.

I don’t bother to acknowledge her this time and head to the door she pointed at. I step quietly into the room, without making my presence felt. The moment I enter, I find Alisha standing in front of a rack of clothes with a book and pen in her hands. Her back is facing me. I lean back against the doorframe and watch her dressed in black skin-tight jeans that hug her beautifully and a blue blouse that I am sure cup her breasts perfectly. I am already anticipating her turning around so I can get a better view. Maybe we can add a few benefits to this marriage and entertain ourselves till the time we are tied in this bond.

Time for our talk. Pushing away from the doorframe, I walk towards her.

“You left,” I say, stopping four steps away from her.

Alisha jumps andspins around, surprised. The book and pen drop from her hands as she faces me.Her eyes widen when they land on me, and I bite my lip to hold back a smile.Just the reaction I was hoping for.

Yet, the next second, she squares her shoulders in an attempt to look brave. Interesting.

“Why are you here?” she demands as she puts her hands on her hips.

My lips lift in lazy amusement. “I believe I did ask you to meet me.”

“Did you?” She raises a brow, challenging me in a mocking tone.

I narrow my eyes on her. “Are you trying to be smart after you high-tailed? And to top it off, you didn’t have the decency to leave any message as well!”

“You must be hallucinating.” She puts on a fake smile. “Did you just speak of decency?”

“I did,” I growl.

“How fascinating!” She glares at me as she takes a step towards me and points her index finger to my chest. That mere touch sends an electric current down my spine. I have never been so affected by just a simple light touch. I gulp and wait for her to speak. “You talking about my indecency? Do you know what indecency is? It is when you make a person wait for two hours in your office, and don’t bother at all. It is when you fail to pass a message about your delay. It is when you barge in here like it’s not your damn fault and don’t apologise. Forget apologising, you have the gall to blame me for walking away? Till when did you expect me to wait, by the way, doomsday?” When I keep staring at her and don’t respond, she takes a deep breath, drops her fingers, and continues, “Look, you must be used to women throwing themselves at your feet, but I’m not one of them. So, better luck in finding a woman of your choice.”

Repentance and panic hit me at once but I push them away. Narrowing my eyes, I thunder, “If this is your way to put off the wedding, then let me warn you, you will not succeed. We are getting married.”

She shrugs her beautiful, slender shoulders. “I’m stating the facts.”

“Smart. Instead, how about we discuss our marriage?”

“Before you speak, how about you hear me out? I have a few suggestions on how we can make this work,” she prompts, her voice thready and weak.

My lips twitch at the suggestion, and my mind runs in an overdrive mode, thinking of the ways we can pleasure each other. “I have a few suggestions of my own to make it interesting.”

“What are they?”

“I think we’ll save that for later.”

She catches my smirk and glares at me. “Fine by me. As you know, I owe your grandfather for helping my dad. The only way to repay him is this marriage. Nevertheless, I don’t plan to stay indebted to you for long. I will pay the loan off eventually. Till then, I have no choice but to go through this marriage drama. And I know you are not happy with this…” I open my mouth to speak, but she holds out her hand, stopping me. “Please don’t interrupt me.” I nod my head, letting her continue. “We will be married only on papers, and I won’t be in your way. You are free to continue with your lifestyle.”

I stumble. Oh, not physically, but mentally. “Right.” I swallow. She stole the words out of my mouth. This is exactly how I pictured our wedding to be. However, why does hearing those words from her cause a sudden heaviness in my chest? “Before I agree to these mind-blowing suggestions of yours, can you enlighten me on how you jumped to the conclusion that this is what I want from our marriage?”

“You did make yourself clear when I heard you talking on the call,” she blurts out, squeezing her eyes shut.

“When?” I narrow my eyes.

“The night I came to your house, I heard your conversation. You made it quite obvious that you loathe to treat me as your wife.”

“Do you not know eavesdropping is not right?”

She nods slowly. “I am aware. Nonetheless, for your kindest information, I was already inside the washroom, unaware that you would choose that very room to enlighten me of your liking towards me.” She spits out, making me almost wince. “I prefer honesty in relationship to anything else.”

Her words tickle my heart. I raise my eyebrows. “What about your dad? He did make me sign a contract and threatened me not to hurt you.”

“This is between you and me. No one else will know the details of this discussion.” Her eyes glint with determination. “We will behave like a normal couple in front of others and make our family believe in our marriage.”
