Aithan slowly shook his head. “Whose loss is that?” he murmured to the man, “Yours or hers?”

Returning his gaze to his phone’s black screen, he made a decision. Tristan was an adult. So was Zelda and so was he.

Ready for that cup of coffee?

He hit the send button before he changed his mind.

“It’s just coffee,” he murmured as his gaze returned to Tristan and the sweaty beginners. No harm in buying her coffee. And maybe she could shed some light on Tristan’s behavior. It was smart, as his employer, for Aithan to understand what made the man tick and what might make him snap.

SAY YES

“Nothingfreakier than a cat sniffing your ass while you’re banging his owner,” Drew remarked the next morning. He was snuggled under my down comforter like a tattooed grizzly in a cozy, yellow den.

I laughed. “Sorry about that. Frank’s pretty possessive.”

“Little cock blocker. He’s lucky he’s cute or I woulda knocked him back a few feet.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t pick a fight with him or Lulu. They each carry an arsenal of knives, sharpen them on the furniture and clean them with their tongues.”

Drew peered at me. “You hang with a rough crowd.”

“That’s my posse. Little shits got my back.”

“Speaking of. Howisyour back?”

I stretched, arms reaching up, toes pointing down. “Good actually.”

Drew growled. “If you do that again, I’ll roll you over and bang you like a screen door.”

I stroked his jaw, tugging on his bearded chin. “You already did that several times last night.”

“Complaining?”

“Only in good ways.”

He surged up and kissed me. “Yeah you were. You make some incredibly sexy noises when you’re getting fucked.”

Then, like the alarm clock he was, Frank popped up onto the bed. He stalked along the edge, got in my face, and meowed, ignoring Drew.

“See?” Drew said. “Cock blocker.”

I laughed. “More like hungry, hungry hippo. He’s always prompt when it comes to mealtimes.” I scratched Frank’s ears then sat up as Drew snuggled back into the bedding. Lulu sat in the bedroom doorway. She turned tail and ran down the stairs as I dragged on my robe.

“Nice view.”

I turned and considered him. “I think you really mean it when you give me compliments.”

“Yeah, Brick, I do.”

I leaned over and kissed him. “Thanks.”

He grinned. “You’re welcome.”

I peed then fed the cats and drank my morning water. Two glasses, this time. Drew had taken everything out of me. My cellphone sat on the dining table. I picked it up, but the battery was dead. “Crapola.” I plugged in the nearest charger and left the phone on the table.

“I’m going for a run,” I said as I returned to the bedroom and started pulling clothes from my dresser.
