“Beta,” Drew said. “You’re the alpha pussy, for sure.”

I swatted him with a pillow, but he just laughed and pulled me close again.

I snuggled against him. “You make me feel amazing, Drew Katterman.”

“Good.” He folded his hands behind his head and looked smug. “Then my mission here is done.”

“Does that mean you’re leaving soon?” We hadn’t discussed his travel plans. Obviously, I knew he’d have to return to New York sooner rather than later, but I’d hoped to have at least another week with him. I hated the idea of Drew returning to his girlfriend, Livi, and forgetting about me. Call me selfish and insecure, but I couldn’t help it.

“Friday afternoon.”

I sat up. “That soon?” I fetched my shirt from the floor and pulled it on so I wouldn’t have to meet his eyes.

He ran his hand down my back and over my hip. “Unfortunately. I have a signing in Boston on Saturday, then I go to Detroit, D.C., and Philly, before returning home to New York on Tuesday.” He caught my hand and pressed it to his lips. “Plus, you have to work. I’m not the only author you do.”

I knew he meant narration, but I still said, “Yes, you are.”

He chuckled. “Cheeky.”

I found my undies and slipped them on. “You’re right, but I’m still sad to see you leave.” I had no right to feel possessive, but I couldn’t help it. I liked Drew more than any man I’d ever known. But it was way too soon to expect a commitment.

He sat up and cupped the nape of my neck, forcing me to meet his gaze. “Brick, I’ll be back.”

I studied him for a long moment. “I’d like that, but I’m not going to pine away by myself while you’re globetrotting with other lovers.”

“Good. You’re better than that. Stronger. And you have Aithan to capture.”

I laughed. “You say that like he’s a conquest.”

“Isn’t he?”

I pulled on my jeans and stood. “Aithan Mazur is a gentleman.” Leaning over him, I murmured, “Unlike you, sir.”

He slid his hands into my hair and brought our faces close. “Oh? What am I, Zelda Gordon?”

“A scoundrel. A cad. A very sexy rogue, Mr. Katterman.”

“I like that,” he said, and pulled my mouth to his.

KINKY LIKE THAT

Aithan textedme Friday morning as I was heading downstairs and out for my run.

Lunch today? Tobias wants to meet & feed u. He says his chef can accommodate your AIP needs.

I had to think of who Tobias was, then remembered he was Aithan’s best friend.

He owns a restaurant?

Scumwater in Ballard. It’s a gastropub & microbrewery. His chef offers a paleo menu.

Really? That sounds wonderful. What time?

Is 1:00 too late?

Not at all. I’ll meet u there.
