It was from Livi.

You fucker! Answer my texts! I needmoremoney, not less. How the fuck am I supposed to survive in Paris on this pissy little amount?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!!!

He replied.

My phone got wet. No texting for a few days while it dries. And I don’t want to do this over email.

She emailed back immediately.

Do what? Be a little bitch?!

Drew scowled.

Have this conversation, but here we are, so fine. Learn to stretch your money, Livi. This is the last month I’ll underwrite your lavish lifestyle. When you get back to the States, go to your parents’ house, that’s where all your shit will be. Our relationship is over.

What?!!! Fuck you!!! You fucking fucker!!!

Drew bared his teeth at the computer.

Use fuck or exclamation points one more time and I’ll close that card and cut you off completely. I’m trying to be civil about this, Liv. You knew the rules. You ignored them. Again. I’m the one handling the fallout with my building’s management team. If I lose this apartment, it’ll be because you screwed me over. I’m sick of your greed and laziness.

Asshole. I’m done with you. You suck in bed and you’re boring. Magnus said he’ll pay for my trip.

Good. And good luck to him. I’ll ship out all your crap tomorrow. You might want to warn your parents that a shitload of boxes are coming their way. Goodbye, Livi.

Fuck you!!!

Drew laughed. He signed out of his email and went onto his credit card’s website. He found Livi’s information and cancelled her card. He knew her dad had an emergency account for her, so she wasn’t truly stranded, but it felt good to shut her out.

“Yup, Brick. I see why you cleaned house so thoroughly. There’s nothing better than throwing out the trash.”

He plugged in his computer to charge, turned off the bedside light, and settled into clean sheets and blankets.

Tomorrow he’d go for a run, then finish draftingRocket.

“And email Zel,” he said around a yawn.

THE FATKINI

Aithanand I didn’t have anal or oral, but we did have sex on every level of my house, every night for the rest of the week.

“Why does Drew call you Brick?” he asked Friday morning after we’d returned from a run and eaten breakfast. We sat at the kitchen table. He sipped coffee and I snuggled Lulu while Frank snoozed on the sunny windowsill.

I said, “Computer, play ‘Brick House’ by the Commodores.”

The AI responded and the song filled the kitchen with funk.

Aithan laughed. “Seriously? He nicknamed you after this song?”

“Yup. We met at a conference. Before he even introduced himself, he said, ‘You have the sexiest voice I’ve ever heard. You’re hired.’” I laughed. “I was so confused by him.”

“Had you done romance before that?”

“Oh, yeah. I was there to speak on several panels about voiceover, including one about narrating explicit sex scenes, so Drew’s work wasn’t shocking or anything. But he was even more brash back then, flush with success and partying with fans. He’s learned to tone it down, believe it or not. A certain amount of jealousy dogs him, though he’s the nicest, most generous guy.”

“I guess that’s par for the course when you’re at the top of the sales charts.”
