“Huh. I did not know that. I mean, I knew your childhood was rough, but I didn’t know about Idaho.”

“Yeah. I don’t miss it or anyone I knew from there, but I do miss the Pacific Northwest. I’m ready to leave New York. I used to think this was the place to be because I’m a writer and hipster authors are supposed to live in the Big Apple, or some bullshit like that. But, I dunno, maybe I’m mellowing in my old age. That dream doesn’t seem so dreamy anymore.”

I laughed. “Yep, you’reancient.”

“I’m thirty-seven, babe. That’s ancient compared to you. I’m fucking robbing the cradle with you. I mean, what are you, like, eighteen?”

“Twenty-four, fuck you very much. I’m much more mature than Eighteen-year-old Zel ever dreamed of being.”

“Probably a lot sexier too. I like being your sugar daddy.”

“Hmph. I can buy my own sugar.”

“I know that. And I love it. Anyway, I’m coming out this week. You shouldn’t be dealing with Aithan’s situation alone.”

“I’m not alone. His friends Tobias and Candace are one hundred percent in. And his sister Paulina flew in today.”

“Well, it’s an excuse to turn around and come back to Seattle. I miss your ass and your bed. Seriously, Zel, if I move there and buy a house, will you come live with me until I’m old and shriveled?”

I was stunned. He moved fucking faster than greased lightning. “Whoa. That’s …. Really? Are you sure you want to jump into the deep end already?”

“Yes. I don’t screw around. When I see something I want, Zelda Gordon, I make it mine. A relationship with you is something I’ve wanted since the day we met. You know that.”

“I do. It’s just that I’m not accustomed to men being so forward with me. They usually hem and haw, then disappear after one night of bad sex.”

“Yeah, well, I’m not one of those assholes. I’d marry you, but you shouldn’t have to choose between me and Aithan.”

I laughed. “Wait, wait, wait. Are you serious? You’re already talking about marriage?”

“Oh, hell yeah. There’s something about you that makes me want to get married, adopt pets, can fruit, and make babies.”

“Can fruit?” I was laughing harder.

“Mm-hmm, must be your peaches inspiring me.”

I snorted. “Or my childbearing hips, perhaps?”

“Oh, yeah, those hips. Don’t tease, love. My hand’s starting to cramp and I need that sucker for typing.”

Oh my God, he was killing me. “Okay, if you move to Seattle and buy a house, I’ll move in with you, but I have conditions.”

“Hit me.”

“The house needs to be big enough to accommodate my growing harem.”

“Growing? Who’re you adding? You know Aithan and I have a say in new members, right?”

“Yes, and I already know he’ll approve. I’ve got my eye on his best friend, Tobias.”

“Oooh, interesting. That could lead to some seriously hot three-way action. So, yes, big house with a ginormous bed. What else?”

“Everyone pitches in with housework and cooking.”

“I can’t even boil eggs, but I’ll scrub your pans until they sparkle. Anything else? Pool? Pool boy? Sex dungeon? I’ve always wanted one of those.”

I couldn’t stop laughing. “What? A pool boy or a sex dungeon?”

“Both in the same place at the same time, though the boy’s for you. Not really my thing.”
