He sent the thumbs up emoji.

So, thanks for talking to the cops. U saved my ass.

Just told them the truth.

U didn’t have to. I’ve been pretty shitty to u. (Sorry again)

Yeah, I did have to. I wouldn’t let u go to jail for something u didn’t do.

I know. You’re too good, Zel.

I shook my head.

I’m just honest.

Yeah. Thx. Tell Aith I’m glad he’s doing better.

He really seemed to mean it.

I will. Heard u went back to work early.

They needed the extra hands with the boss laid up. Everyone’s worried about him.

Including u?

Including me.

OK. I will. Thx, Tris.

The doorbell rang and I ran downstairs to get the door knowing it was Tobias. He’d volunteered to pick up some of Aithan’s things from his apartment.

“Hey, Zel. Can you grab this?” He held out a duffel bag.

“I can get that.” Drew came down the stairs. He took the bag and offered his hand. “Drew Katterman. Thanks for helping out.”

Tobias returned the handshake. “Tobias Peters. And it’s no problem. I’d do anything for my man.”

“Shut up, you suck-up,” Aithan rasped from the top of the stairs and we all laughed.

Tobias had a gray suitcase, too, and we returned to the main level “Think I got everything you needed.” He and Aithan traded hugs.

“Thanks, brother.” Aithan reached for the case, but Tobias headed up the stairs without letting him get a hand on it.

“Don’t even try, man. I know you’re not supposed to lift shit. Which room, Zel?”

“First one on the right.”

Aithan shook his head. “I hate being useless.”

I patted his cheek. “You’re not. You look very pretty on my arm.”

Drew cracked up, and Tobias chuckled as he trotted back down the stairs.

Aithan gave me the stink eye then laughed and winced and cursed in Polish under his breath. “Gówno.”

“What’sgoovno?” I asked.
