“If it comes to that, I’ll get a referral from my dad for a good defense attorney.”

He shook his head. “It’s okay, I know somebody who already offered to help.” He met her gaze. “Pretty sure your dad would like me to rot.”

Drew bit his tongue to keep from commenting, ’cause Zel’s dad wasn’t the only one.

She nodded. “Oh, he thinks you have shit for brains. But he also believes innocent people shouldn’t go to prison.”

“Yeah, well, thanks for the offer, but don’t tell your folks. Okay?”

She sat back. “Okay. If that’s what you want.”

Drew asked the one question she hadn’t. “Does Aithan know all of this?”

Tristan threw him a fuck-off look. “Yeah.” He returned his focus to her. “He told me to talk to you. Can’t believe he didn’t fire my ass.”

“I can, but he’s a better person than the vast majority of humanity,” Zel said.

“True,” Drew added.

Tristan shoved his chair back and stood. “Anyway, now you know. I gotta get back to work.” He walked away before Zelda or Drew could say anything else.

“Okay, bye?” Zel huffed her annoyance. “Thanks for the tea. I’m fine. How’ve you been?” She glanced at Drew. “Jeez, you’d think we hadn’t fucked for two years.”

He frowned. “Don’t remind me.”

“Sorry.”

He kissed her cheek, unsure if she was upset, angry, or both. “You okay?”

“Yeah. Fine. Pissed off by his fucking stupidity, but that’s nothing new.” She squeezed his hand. “Thanks for being only a little dickish.”

He grinned. “Well, Quarrelismy middle name.”

She sipped her tea then looked at him, her brows furrowing. “It is?”

“Yeah. Andrew Quarrel Katterman.”

“Huh. I’m always learning new things about you.”

“I’m a fucking onion, babe. Peel me.” He stood. “Gonna grab some coffee. You need anything?”

“Nah, I’m good.”

Drew got in line with the rest of the caffeine addicts. Something about the conversation with Tristan bugged him. Well, besides the whole dude being a dumbass who nearly got Aithan killed part. He ordered a dirty coffee then stood against the wall, waiting for his drink and surveying the crowd. More than a few guys noticed Zel, and some blatantly stared. Even a few women glanced at her, but she was oblivious to the attention.

He still marveled at how beautiful she was and his luck in being her boyfriend. Drew smiled at the thought, thanked the barista for his drink, and returned to the table. He hoped all those blokes saw him sitting with her. He hoped they were jealous as fuck.

Drew sat and watched hot espresso slowly permeate the ice-cold milk in his cup, creating the drink’s telltale dirty appearance. “Oh, shit,” he muttered, realizing what was bugging him about Tristan’s behavior.

Zel turned from the window to him. “What’s wrong?”

“Something wasn’t sitting right with me about that whole conversation with Douche Canoe. I just figured it out.” He tapped his fingers on the table. “He recognized me and it didn’t surprise him to see us together.”

Her brow furrowed and she gave a little startled jerk of her head. “Well, maybe Candace told him we’re a couple.”

Drew frowned. “Nooo. I don’t think she sits around discussing your love life with him. Do you?”

Brick shrugged, but she looked unsure.
