The guys at the neighboring table had grown quiet, obviously eavesdropping. Drew caught one dude’s gaze and said, “Sorry, chode, her dance card’s full.”

Both guys cracked up.

He downed his coffee, stood, and pulled Zel to her feet. “C’mon, babe. You can’t tease me about DDLG and not expect to be rushed home for a good old-fashioned shagging.”

UNEXPECTED SURPRISES

After we got home, instead of banging each other, I retreated to my vocal book and banged out four more chapters of the nightmare novel. I edited and sent them to Holly, then went upstairs for a snack. Drew joined me a little while later. We ate and talked about house hunting. Mayliss Evans was my — our — realtor. She’d sent Drew every house on the market that came even close to his wish list. They were pretty, and he’d toured three, but none had lit him up. Considering he would spend six to seven million, he could afford to be choosy.

After clearing away our dishes, we moved to the living room. He wrote from the sofa. I read emails and updated my social media accounts from the wing chair opposite him. I had a boatload of positive comments about my love life, so I was happily pretending Tristan’s bombshell hadn’t landed in my lap — the reason we hadn’t shagged. I hadn’t been in the mood and Drew understood. I’d hidden in my booth, and he’d left me alone.

God, I loved the guy.

I looked up, about to say as much, only to discover him watching me from the sofa, assessing with eagle eyes.

“You’re scheming,” I said instead.

“Babe, you know I love you.”

That didn’t bode well. I considered him through narrowed eyes. “Yeeeaaah. But?”

“Meet with the stylist.”

I sighed. “I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on new clothes right now.”

“Then spend thousands ofmydollars on them.”

“And be like Livi? No.” I shook my head. “I already can’t compare to the good things about her. I don’t want to be compared to the bad ones.”

Drew pulled a face — part confused, part annoyed. “Don’t do that, Zel.”

“Do what? Compare myself to your ex-girlfriend?”

“Her or anyone else.” He looked and sounded genuinely pissed. “You do it more than you know, babe, and you have got to stop. All the reasons I’m with you have abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with Livi.” He set aside his computer and leaned forward on the sofa. “I know what you’re thinking, and it pisses me off.”

“What?” I suddenly felt defensive and nervous.

“That you’re somehow still just a fling to me. That I’ll get bored and start looking at chicks who are petite like Livi.” He pushed up from the couch and stalked toward me. “Don’t do that.”

He caught the nape of my neck and crushed his mouth against mine, kissing me so hard I whimpered. His knee landed on the chair between my legs. He cupped my jaw with his other hand and deepened the kiss.

Goddamn, his ferocity turned me on.

He straightened then pulled me to my feet and against him. “I love every fucking inch and ounce of you, Zelda Gordon. I love your mind as much as your body.”

“Drew—”

He silenced me with another fierce kiss, his tongue in my mouth, his hands up my shirt, squeezing my tits. This wasn’t a side of Drew Katterman I’d ever seen before and it was making me horny as hell.

“I love your skin and your hair and your eyes. I love your mouth.” He paused. “Goddamn, I love your mouth.” His lips found mine again. He sucked my lower lip, stroked his tongue across it, and moved down to my jaw.

“Drew,” I sighed.

He walked me backwards until we hit the wall with a rush of breath and a moan. I wore a loose, old skirt. He hitched it up, hooked his fingers in my panties, pulled them down and off. I worked open his pants and he helped shove them off. Then he lifted my leg to hook around his hip and slid his cock deep inside me.

“Oh my god.” I moaned as he held my leg, pinned me against the wall, and fucked me hard. “Drew.”
