“The moon is about to rise. Not quite a full one tonight but big enough to illuminate the sky. Stay and watch it with me.” He said softly and I decided not to push him.

Ordinarily, I would dig and dig until he snapped and told me what he was thinking but tonight, I felt like we needed to enjoy the stillness before it disappeared.

We sat in silence, his arm around me as the moon began to peak over the horizon, illuminating the ridgeline of the mountains.

He was right, it wasn’t quite a full circle but close, and being out here made it seem even bigger than normal. It looked as though you could walk to the end of the field and touch the glowing orb with your hands.

“I always loved the night out here. It makes things seem simple, the troubles of the day are a distant memory and you can breathe. The night lets you rest in more ways than one.” Beau said and I rest my head on his shoulder, not wanting to break the moment.

“When I started working for your father, I was young and stupid. I thought I could change the world, I thought I was the tough guy who had the potential to live a high-rolling lifestyle. My dreams were grand of taking over all the land out here, of having the huge ranch and house, a big family, and generational wealth.” He said and I went still, a rare moment of Beau talking about his emotions that I didn’t want to stop.

“When I realized that I was only digging myself a bigger hole and getting into a world I had no business being in, I had two options. Sink deeper or try to run. I made the mistake of sinking deeper into it because I was a fool, thinking I could fix it all.” He huffed out a bitter laugh.

“When Austin died, I realized what he had left me. A broken system and a world that was dark and dangerous. He left it to you and I was angry. At first, I know he thought he did the right thing but then I was angry because I thought you ran. I felt like it should have been given to me. I worked his mess for most of my life and I got nothing in return.” He said.

“Beau…” I started.

“No. Listen.” He said forcefully and I nodded, letting him speak.

“Then I thought he had done it as his final blessing, as if to say he had decided that I could be with you and this was his way of luring you back. But now, now I know he was selfish. I was selfish. He never should have left this place to you. Not because it isn’t yours, but because he put you in danger. He left you an empire that is crumbling and everyone is trying to pick the pieces up. He pulled you into this world again when you were gone. He should have let you go. I should let you go.” He whispered as I felt him turn to me.

Panic set in as I realized what he was saying.

“Beau…I was a part of this world already. I was born in this world. It is quite literally in my blood. I was never going to escape it. Just because I was blind to what happened here, does not mean that I was free from it. The only mistake you and he made was never telling me the truth a long time ago.” I gripped his arm, hoping I could make him understand.

“He could have cut ties back then, he could have sent you away earlier when he knew he was never getting out. I should have never told him I loved you. I should have never let you come back here.” He sighed as though it were a huge weight for him to carry.

“Don’t you dare speak like that, Beau Daley. You can't tell me that you love me and then tell me that you should have let me go. You make it sound like you are about to tell me that you don’t want to be with me anymore or send me away.” I said, nerves flitting in my stomach.

“A stronger man would do exactly that to keep you safe. A better man would sacrifice the love he has with you to make sure that you can live a full life without fear but I am not that man.” He said as he cupped my face.

“I am a selfish, bad man who is hopelessly in love with you Anya. I would rather tear out my own heart than give you up now that I finally have you.” The conviction in his voice had my heart thumping in my chest as he rested his forehead against mine.

“Good. Because I would die a thousand times before I let you send me away. I would go through everything I have again and again as long as I knew it meant I had you on the other side. I love you, Beau.” I said softly, holding back a sob as the tears wet my face.

“And I love you, Anya Hart. You are the moon in my night sky, the sunshine in my day. Everything I have ever done has been driven by the desire and the possibility of being able to call you mine and one day once this is all over, I am going to marry you.” He kissed me, pushing me back into the grass as his tongue found mine, deepening the kiss.

I moaned softly, wrapping my arms around him to pull him closer, hands sliding under his shirt.

“Beau. I want you. I need you closer.” I gasped and he sat up, quickly pulling his shirt off as he tugged at mine.

I undressed quickly, not wanting the clothes to stop us and Beau adjusted the blanket and then lay me down.

“What do you want, Anya.” Beau crooned as he sat back, his body a silhouette in the darkness, the moon casting a halo glow behind him.

He looked like a fallen angel,my dark angel.I thought. The man who had loved me and let me hate him.

“I want you. I want to feel your skin pressed against every inch of mine, I want to feel you deep inside me, I want you to make me feel alive.” I said hoarsely, desire and a little embarrassment mingling as I said the things I wanted.

“That I can give you,” he said before capturing my lips with his. He kissed me hard and fast before he trailed a line of kisses down my body.

He spread my thighs and pushed my knees up to my chest, exposing me to the night before he pressed his mouth against me, licking my pussy like he kissed.

Passionate. Intense. Devouring.

I arched my back, a guttural moan escaping my lips as he ate me like I was his favorite food and when his tongue buried deep inside me, I cried out, gripping his hair to hold him against me.

He moaned against me, the vibration adding another layer of pleasure as I rocked my hips, seeking more.
