“Absolutely not,” she snaps. But it’s too late, we’re here and—

“Raine?” they all parrot at once.

Okay so maybe they are a little shocked.

Lifting her hand, she waves somewhat nervously as the girls all hop up from their seats and come rushing over.

Leaving them to grill her, I make my way over to my boys.

“Thought you hated her?” Elliot asks, studying closely.

“Oakley thought the same about Tally and look where that got him,” I counter.

“Not sure this is the same but okay. It was only a few hours ago you were convinced she tagged our cars and cut out power, now you’re inviting her upstairs and letting her warm your dick?”

I lift one shoulder in a shrug.“She hurt herself. I was taking care of her.”

“Oh well, that explains it,” Reese teases. “Theo the good Samaritan, taking in all the criminals in their hour of need.”

“Shut the fuck up. She was hurt because of me. I was just—”

“Giving her a pity fuck?” Oak asks.

“No. I just…” I run my fingers through my hair before scrubbing my face. “I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing, okay?” I confess quietly before glancing back to make sure Raine’s attention has been completely stolen by the girls. “It just… it felt right.

“Fucking hell,” Elliot mutters, falling back on the sofa in disbelief.

“What?”

“You’ve fallen for her, haven’t you?”

“What? No. She’s just a good fuck and—”

“Sure, man. Keep lying to yourself. I can assure you, it totally makes the whole thing easier,” Oakley says smugly.

“I don’t like her, I just… she’s a really good fuck, okay? And I needed that after Sunday.”

“Sure. We totally get it,” Reese says, elbowing Oakley while Elliot stares up at the ceiling. “She staying for dinner? We’re ordering pizza.”

“We are not. It’s game week. Protein-rich meals all around.”

“So,” Reese says, ignoring Elliot as he pushes to his feet. “Pizza all around?”

RAINE

“Abi, please stop looking at me like that,” I murmur as I sit with the girls while the boys inhale the pizza they ordered.

“I just… I envy you.”

“What? Why?” I’m a little taken aback by the defeat in her voice.

“Because you’ve been here weeks and already got Theo wrapped around your little finger.” She hesitates, glancing toward Liv and Tally but they’re deep in conversation. “I’ll never be that girl.”

“What girl?”

“The girl who goes after what she wants. The girl who gets the boy.” She lets out a soft sigh, her pained gaze moving around the room until it lands on Elliot.
