“She’s good. Overslept. We had a fight,” I confess.

“You need to back off, Theo. I know it’s hard to take, but she’s not a kid anymore.”

“Don’t start. I’ve already heard it all this morning.”

I don’t need to look over to know he’s studying me, my face burns with his assessing stare.

“What else has happened? You’re on edge.”

“It’s nothing,” I grunt, hating that he can read me so easily.

“Okay, sure. Play that game if you want. You know I’ll find out eventually.”

“Whatever.” Flipping my book open, I grab a pen and start copying down the notes from the projector screen.

If I were listening, I might have a clue as to what they’re about, but I’ll figure it out. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t actually need anyone to do my homework for me. I’m not as dumb as I look.

No sooner have I walked into my second class of the day do I realise that Keeley has already rallied her band of bitches.

I remember what they were all like when they turned on Tally before the Christmas break. If I want Raine out of Millie’s life, then the chasers are the fastest way to make it happen.

“What the— Get your fucking hands off me, bitch,” Raine’s voice rings down the corridor, and when I look over, I find three of Keeley’s friends trying to look innocent as Raine pokes at something in her hair.

Chewing gum. Not exactly what I asked for, and not the kind of actions that’s going to make her run back to wherever she came from, but I guess they’ve got to start somewhere.

With a smirk, I walk past them and slip into my class, excited to see what’s going to be next.

One of the best things about our lives here at All Hallows’ is that none of us need to lift a finger when there’s something we want.

By the time lunch rolls around, rumours of the chasers having a new target are rife throughout year thirteen.

“What’s going on with the new girl?” Tally asks as her and Olivia join our table.

“She called Keeley a bitch yesterday morning.”

“Of course she did,” Olivia mutters.

“I warned her to stay away from the chasers,” Tally states.

“And you think a girl like Raine would listen to that kind of advice?” Oak asks, amusement dancing in his eyes.

“Well, no, I guess not. But… well, I tried.”

“I think she’s strong enough to look after herself,” Olivia says.

“Who can look after herself?” Reese says as him and Elliot complete our group.

“Raine,” Tally explains.

“She can. I just saw her going up against a couple of chasers by her locker. We’ve nothing to worry about there. She—”

“Theo,” Keeley squeals across the common room, cutting off whatever Reese was about to say.

Before I know what’s happening, she’s on my lap, her lips next to my ear.“Are you ready, baby? The fun is just about to begin.”

Shivers race down my spine, but they have nothing to do with her and everything to do with the girl who’s just walked in with a group of chasers closing in behind her.

Getting comfortable, I shift her on my lap and wait with a smirk for what’s about to go down.
