“What do you do for work?”

“I’m a freelance consultant. Systems management and IT.”

“Sounds fancy.”

“It isn’t, not really. But it pays well. Allows me to enjoy the finer things in life. Spoil the people I care about.” He gets up and stalks toward me. My breath hitches, and not in a good way.

Taking the glass from my hand, he gently tugs me to my feet. “I’d love to spoil you.” His hand brushes over my shoulder, pushing my hair back. I peer up at him, trying to hide my nerves.

“From what Anthony said, you’re new in town,” he says it like it matters. “I could show you around. Give you the Stanley Harris tour.”

“Your wife,” I blurt, and his brows furrow.

“Not a problem.” He leans in, letting his lips feather across my cheek. “She’s married to her job almost as much as I am. Besides, I’m pretty sure she’s been fucking her personal trainer for the last five years.”

“Oh.”

“Don’t worry about any of that,” his voice dips lower. “This is our night. Nothing outside that door matters.” His lips linger against my neck, and I have to resist the urge to shove him away and scream at him never to lay his hands on me again.

I’m Theo’s.

My heart knows it.

But my head…

My head knows it doesn’t matter.

After what I’ve done, Theo will probably be balls deep inside of an Heir chaser by now. Fucking away his sorrows.

Fucking me out of his system.

Pain radiates through me, coiling around my heart and making it hard to breathe.

I can’t do this.

I can’t—

“Raine,” he breathes, cupping my face. Staring down at me like I’m all his fantasies come true. “I’m going to make you feel so good, beautiful girl.”

Bile churns in my stomach, silent tears rolling down my cheeks as he begins to strip me, his hands and mouth trailing over my skin hungrily.

“God I’m going to fuck you so good, show you what a real man can do.”

I press my lips together, trapping the scream there. The utter disgust and repulsion crawling up my throat.

The air shifts, the change in him, almost violent. He shoves me toward the bed, pushing me down on my hands. The air leaves my lungs on a sharp breath. This can’t be happening.

It can’t—

But I hear the snap of his belt. The rustle of material. Feel his hand grabbing at the skirt of my dress, cool air hitting the back of my thighs.

“Please,” I cry, choking on the fear swarming me.

This wasn’t supposed to happen again.

Vaughn wasn’t supposed to find me.

He wasn’t supposed to be here. Ruining everything. Destroying the only good thing I’ve ever had.
