It’s now or never.

I grip the door handle, quietly opening it. I don’t glance back, don’t stop for a second as I make a beeline for the door and make a run for the hallway.

“Shit. Fuck,” Vaughn says but the door clicks shut behind me and I take off down the hall.

Away from Vaughn.

And toward my freedom.

THEO

“He’s at a function in London,” Oak says, holding the phone away from his ear for a beat.

“Then get him back here. We need him. Raine needs him,” I beg.

“They’re trying to get hold of their IT guy. We don’t actually need him. Just his tech people.”

“Right, brilliant,” I mutter, continuing with the pacing I started when Oak first pulled his phone out to call his dad.

My heart pounds, my hands tremble and fear knots up my insides.

The things I read in Raine’s file…

Fuck.

The things she’s been through, the shit she’s been silently dealing with.

I wish she’d told me.

If she had then I never, ever would have allowed Vaughn to be in her life.

No wonder she acted so fucking odd when I introduced them.

I knew life in the system could be shit. It’s the exact reason I waited until my birthday to bring our father down. There was no fucking way I was ever risking that happening to me or Millie.

“Theo, you need to stop,” the girl in question says, stepping right in front of me, her tiny hands gripping my upper arms.

“Mills,” I sigh.

She blinks up at me, desperately trying to fight back her tears.“We’ll find her. We’ll bring her back. We have to. She… she belongs here.”

“I know,” I say softly. It’s at total odds with the oppressive need for violence that’s pulsating through my veins. Pulling her into my arms, I drop my nose into her hair and breathe her in, hoping her presence will calm the wildfire roaring inside me.

“Yeah, okay,” Oak says down the line, making my head pop back up. “Number. We need his number.”

“Shit, yeah.” Releasing Millie, I dig my phone out and find Vaughn’s contact.

Just the sight of his name makes something hot and dangerous explode within me.My lips part to relay the number, but I quickly find my voice doesn’t work.

Sensing my struggle, Oak steps over and reads it straight from my screen.“Yeah, okay. We’ll be waiting.” He hangs up, making the lump in my throat grow larger.

“If they can track it, they’ll get back in touch,” he explains.

“And what if they can’t?” Millie asks hesitantly.

“We’ll worry about that if it happens. Dad’s guy is solid. He’ll make it work.”
