There’s no way I’m letting her run away from what we’ve found. It’s too good. Too strong.

Too… big.

When Reese got with Liv, and then Oak with Tally, I thought they were crazy.

But I get it now.

This need to be with Raine, to tell her all my secrets, to be my true self. It’s all-consuming. It’s addictive. It’s… every-fucking-thing.

Ignoring everyone who’s loitering in the hallways, I make my way to her room. And without wasting any more time, I press my key card to the lock and throw her door open.I haven’t put much thought into what I’d find when I got there. I was just too determined to stand in front of her and tell her once and for all what I want that I didn’t even consider what she wants.

But the second I step into the room and find her sitting in the middle of her bed sobbing into her hands, I swear something inside me shatters.

“Sunshine,” I breathe, abandoning the bottle of vodka and my bag, and rush toward her.

It doesn’t even enter my head that she might push me away. Hell, she might try but I’ll refuse to allow it. Instead, I pull her trembling body into my arms and hold her tight.

Just like I told myself I would only a few minutes ago.

RAINE

“Fuck, what’s wrong?” Theo falls to his knees in front of me and gently pries my hands away.

“N-nothing.” I try to pull away. “I’m fine.”

Desperately swiping at my cheeks, I try to erase the evidence of my tears.

“Raine, look at me.” He captures my chin and gently pulls my face around to his. “What’s going on?”

“N-nothing. I’m just pissed off.”

“With me?” His jaw clenches.

Crap. What am I supposed to do?

Tell him the truth?

I can’t do that.

Not until I know what Vaughn really wants—until I know he isn’t going to go after the people I care about.

A violent shudder goes through me, and Theo wraps me in his arms. It’s such an intimate move that I sob against him, letting out all the frustration and anger and helplessness I feel.

“Sunshine.” One of his hands runs down my spine. “Tell me what to do here.”

“I…” The words teeter on the tip of my tongue, but I swallow them down. “It’s nothing.” I pull away again, swiping at my eyes. “I’m just overwhelmed.”

“You sure?” His eyes narrow as he searches my face for answers I can’t give him.

I nod. “I’m good. But why are you here?”

Hurt flashes across his expression but he locks it down. “Raine, I—”

His warm breath skitters over my face and I frown. “Are you drunk?”

“I’m not fucking drunk.” He climbs to his feet and rakes a hand through his hair.
