“Go, you’ve got to go.” I try to push Theo away, but he won’t listen, peppering my face with tiny kisses.

Laughter spills out of me, and I want nothing more than to freeze-frame this moment.

“Let me stay,” he groans. “We can wake up tomorrow and have lazy morning sex.”

“We can’t. I promised Millie I’d meet her for breakfast. And she can’t see you leaving. No one can.”

“But—”

“Theo.” I give him a little shove and he pouts. Jesus, he’s too cute like this. Playful and teasing. “You need to go.”

“Fine. Fine.” He lets out an irritated sigh. “I’ll go. But after you get done with Millie, your arse is mine, sunshine.” He slaps it for good measure.

“Bye,” I say, locking down the hurt swelling inside me. This could be the last time he’s here, in my room.

The last time I ever get to kiss him.

Throwing myself at him, I kiss him desperately. He pulls me into his arms, chuckling. “You’re the one sending me away and now you’re acting like you don’t want me to go.”

Because I don’t, I swallow the words.

“Okay, go. Go.” I shove him again and he gives me a strange look.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?”

“Yeah.” I nod, swallowing down the lump in my throat.

“I won’t let you run again,” he says.

“I’m not running.”

It’s not a lie, not really. I’m not running. But it won’t matter once he learns the truth.

“Night, sunshine.”

“Night, Teddy.” I smile, hoping he can’t see the sadness in my eyes.

I don’t ask how he intends on getting out of the dorms without being noticed. As I’ve learned by now, he seems to have no problem coming and going as he pleases.

“Tomorrow,” he adds before slipping out of my room.

I drop onto the edge of my bed, letting out an exasperated breath. There are so many emotions coursing through me I don’t know which one to latch onto first.

Instead, I replay every second of the last two hours. Every touch and kiss and whispered word. All the things we didn’t say but felt anyway.

If I wasn’t head over heels for Theo Ashworth before, tonight has sealed the deal.

Not that it matters anymore.

Sadness envelops me, and I wish more than anything that it didn’t have to be this way.

Knowing it will be a while before I can sleep, I decide to go and raid the kitchen. It’s empty so I grab a handful of snacks to take back to my room. Movement behind me catches my attention and I smile to myself.

Sneaky boy.

“Theo, you can’t—”

“Sorry to disappoint.” Vaughn’s voice turns my blood to ice as he steps into the kitchen and closes the door behind him.
