I’m not this girl. I don’t play dress up for my boyfriend and his rich family.

“I’m sorry if I touched a nerve.” Millie comes up beside me.

“It’s fine. I just… I don’t exactly feel comfortable in a place like this.”

“I don’t like playing dress up either.” She nudges my arm. “But it’s Theo’s birthday, he needs us.”

“Yeah…”

Guilt snakes through me but I shove it down. Even if Vaughn wasn’t holding me over a barrel, I’d want to be there for Theo tomorrow night.

He trusted me enough to open up to me about his dad. The least I can do is be there for him.

Even if he’ll hate me for it one day.

“Okay so colours are out. What about monotones?” Millie asks, steering me toward a rack of sparkly glittery dresses.

“No bling,” I state with a shudder.

“Okay, how about”—she scans the boutique, her eyes landing on a smaller rack in the corner—“yes, I think that could work.” She tugs me toward it, reaching for one of the dresses. “What about something like this?”

I stare at the black bodycon dress with lace collar and cap sleeves.

“I…”

“Pretty, right?” Her mouth twitches and I roll my eyes because damn her, she’s right.

It is pretty.

And if I’ve got to wear a dress to the party, I want it to be something as kick-arse and gorgeous as this one.

“Try it on.”

“What? No, I can’t—”

“Try. It. On.” She thrusts it at me.

“It’s probably not my size.”

“It’s your size. Now, go.”

“Fine.” I snatch it from her and hook the hanger over my finger, heading for the dressing room with Millie’s laughter following me the whole way.

She’s such a little know-it-all but as I slip the dress on, I can’t help thinking that Theo knew what he was talking about when he said Millie would help me find the perfect dress.

Because it is perfect.

The soft material fits me like a glove, accentuating my curves and drawing attention to my collarbone. The lace is sexy and playful and gives the whole look a dark edge.

It screams Raine Storm, and I love it.

I do.

But when my eyes snag on the price tag, I almost fall over.

“Come on, the suspense is killing me,” Millie calls from beyond the changing room.

“I don’t think it’s the right one,” I say, barely hiding my disappointment.
