With my hands trembling and my palms sweating in an unusual show of nerves, I let myself into the girls’ dorms and I take the stairs two at a time.There’s only one person who can distract me from what’s to come, and she’s hopefully busy getting ready in her room.
I don’t bother knocking, I wouldn’t be able to cope if she refused to let me in right now, so I just unlock the door and storm inside.
Only, it’s empty.
All the air rushes from my lungs as I spin around in the spot as if she’s going to appear in front of me magically.
“Fuck,” I hiss, pulling my phone from my pocket to check the time.
We need to leave in an hour. Where the fuck is she?
Tapping out a message, my pacing starts up again as I wait for her to read it and then reply. But she does neither.My heart races as thoughts I really don’t fucking need begin flickering through my mind.
She didn’t want to come tonight. What if she’s bolted to get out of it?
Raine isn’t a pussy. In most circumstances, she’s happy to throw her shoulders back and stand up for herself. But a golf club full of rich socialites isn’t exactly her norm. I’m more than aware of that. I’m also aware that I was selfish to ask her to attend tonight. But I need her there.
Fuck. I need her like I’ve never needed anyone else before and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that.
When it feels like an hour has passed, I hit call and lift my phone to my ear.It rings and rings, but she never answers. Instead, when her voice fills the line, it’s her voicemail message.
“Hi, you’ve reached Raine. Sorry I can’t take your call right now, I’m too busy being fucking awesome. Laters.”
My teeth grind.
“Where the fuck are you?” I growl, cutting the call before the beep.
My pacing starts up again and I only get more and more antsy as the minutes pass.I’m about to give up and go to Millie’s room to see if they’re getting ready together when her door finally opens and a harassed-looking Raine steps inside wearing only a hoodie I left here one night this week.
It hangs around her thighs, leaving the rest of her insane legs on show. Her hair is curled and her make-up is flawless but there’s something in her eyes that makes my stomach clench painfully.
“Where have you been?” I demand, my voice sounding way more frantic than I was hoping for.
Her lips open and close a couple of times before she finds some words.“I… uh…” She looks back over her shoulder nervously. “Millie needed help with her make-up.”
Narrowing my eyes, I take a step forward.“I need you more,” I whisper, hating how vulnerable I feel but unable to do anything else.
Her eyes flash with something. Surprise, I think before her brows dip low.“What’s wrong?” she asks, having to tip her head back to keep eye contact with me.
“I need you.”
If we weren’t so close, she’d have no chance of hearing me.But she does, and she also knows exactly what I need. Her fingers lift to the zip running down the front of my hoodie and she drags it down.My heart thuds against my ribs with every passing second and every inch of skin she reveals.All the air leaves my lungs in a rush when the fabric parts and I find that she’s bare beneath bar a tiny G-string.
“Fuck, sunshine. You really know how to distract a guy, huh?”
Pressing her palm in the centre of my chest, she shoves until I take a step back. I’m so entranced by her incredible body that I let her push me across her room until my legs hit her bed.“Talk to me,” she demands, her eyes continuing to hold mine captive.
“T-tonight,” I stutter like a fucking moron as she reaches for the belt around my waist and begins tugging it free.
