Slamming his foot down on the accelerator, he sends me flying back into the seat with a dark chuckle as he speeds out of the car park and toward home.

Pulling my phone from my pocket, I find a screen full of notifications but there is only one I’m interested in.

Raine: I have Millie. We’re at the Chapel. She needs you.

I lift my thumb to reply but Elliot makes me pause.

“How fucking long have you been planning that?” he barks.

“Too fucking long.”

“It feel good?”

I pause for a minute, giving myself a moment to actually think about how I feel. A smile spreads across my lips as I think back to the moment Anthony Ashworth was marched through the event room in handcuffs ready to spend the rest of his miserable life in jail.

Oh, how the mighty fall.

“Fuck, man. It feels so fucking good.”

His eyes meet mine in the rear-view mirror and I see his own need for revenge on his father burning in their depths.“Enjoy it. You deserve it.”

The second he pulls into the car park closest to the Chapel, I throw the door open and run, leaving both of them in my dust in my need for my girl and my sister.

RAINE

“What the hell was that?” Millie rushes out as I usher her out of the cab.

My hands shake as I grab her slim fingers and tug her toward the Chapel. “You’re safe now,” I say, a slight quiver to my voice.

Thanks to Theo’s cryptic warnings, I knew something was going down tonight but I still can’t get my head around what happened back there.

Mr. Ashworth was arrested. Carted away in handcuffs in front of the elite of Saints Cross. Because he murdered their mum.

A shiver runs down my spine as Millie burrows into my side.

“Come on,” I whisper, wrapping an arm around her. “Let’s get you inside.”

She shouldn’t have had to witness that. But I get why Theo did it.

God, no wonder he’s been carrying all this anger around with him.

We reach the ornate doors, and I dig the key Elliot gave me earlier out of my clutch.

“Who gave you that?” Millie asks.

“Elliot.”

“Did he know?

“I don’t think so, but he knew something was going down. We both did.”

“Theo told you to get me out of there, didn’t he?”

“I…” I hesitate for a second and then nod. “He did.”

She doesn’t reply, just stares at me as I unlock and push open the door, stepping aside to let her enter first.
