“Get some sleep, sunshine,” he adds. “We can talk in the morning.”

He’s right, we can.

Only, I’m not sure what the hell I’m going to say.

THEO

Ilie still with Raine’s head on my chest and her leg entwined with mine. Her warm breath rushes over my skin every few seconds while Millie snores lightly on my other side.

I meant what I said, as long as I have both of them, I know everything will be okay.

Tonight, well, last night now, went off without a hitch. It was everything I could have hoped for.Watching our father get frog-marched out by police was the vindication I needed.

The pure disbelief on his face was just more proof of his guilt. His guilt and his total disregard for my tenacity.

He had no idea that I was on to him. That over the past few years, I’ve been digging deeper and deeper into his corrupt dealings. I scrutinised everything he said, every move he made. And then once I was confident in my suspicions and I enlisted Christian to the cause, he dug even deeper.

I thought that once he was arrested, I’d relax. The hard part has been done. But as I lie here now with both mine and Millie’s futures resting on my shoulders, I realise it was only the beginning.

Barely eighteen years old and responsible for a minor. It’s a relief that Christian and Fiona are so good at their jobs because I’m not sure many other people would be able to convince the authorities that I’m the best person to take care of my kid sister.

They managed it, though, and despite being fucking terrified, I know it’s the right thing.

It’s going to be hard. Exams, uni, parenthood in a sense, but I’m confident that we’ll smash it.Anything has to be better than what we’ve lived through thus far.

It really can’t get any worse.

I startle when Raine’s hand twitches against my stomach, and I glance down just as she lifts her head, her sleepy violet eyes finding mine.“Have you slept at all?” she whispers.

“A little,” I lie.

With a soft sight, she stretches up, letting her lips brush against mine in the sweetest kiss.

A moan rumbles deep in my throat.I needed her so badly by the time I got back last night. I was desperate to lose myself in her and forget everything for a few hours. But I couldn’t, not with Millie sleeping in my bed.

She has to be my priority now, even more than she always has been. I’m solely responsible for her. Not that she knows that yet, of course.

“Everything is going to be okay, you know?” Raine whispers.

“Yeah, I do. I wouldn’t have done all this otherwi—”

My words are cut off when Millie lets out a loud snore making both of us chuckle.

“She’s cute,” Raine says, making me smile.

Reaching down, I grab her arse and squeeze until she yelps quietly.“You’re not,” I growl.

“Theo,” she gasps, although it’s more breathy and needy than I’m sure she means for it to be.

“What, sunshine? I’m being good.”

“And it had better stay that way,” a rough, sleepy voice comes from the other side of the bed.

“Morning, Mills,” I sing, my heart aching with the prospect of all the things we need to discuss today.

“I swear to God, if the bed starts rocking, I’m leaving town and never coming back,” she warns.
