I would rather die than ever be his puppet again. But I have no choice.

One last time, then I can make a break for it.

I should have run the second I knew he’d found me, but I stayed, telling myself I didn’t have a choice.

But I realise now, I stayed for Theo. For Millie. To steal every second of time with them before this moment.

“What’s it going to be, Raine?”

I nod. Just once.

Just enough to let him know I’m on side.

He steps forward and cups my face in his big traitorous hand. “Tomorrow then. Don’t screw me over again, baby. You won’t like the consequences if you do. Ashworth’s sister sure is a pretty little thing.”

“Stay away from Millie,” I snap.

His mouth curves into a wicked smile. “You know what to do.”

He slips out of the bathroom, and I sag against the wall, trying desperately to compose myself.

This is it. The moment I’ve been dreading.

Drying my eyes, I walk out of there on shaky legs.

“Raine?” A soft voice calls out before I reach the stairs and I turn to find Abi frowning at me.

“What’s going on?”

“N-nothing.” I desperately try and compose myself. “Me and Theo had an argument, so I’m going to call it a night and go check on Millie.”

“Are you sure—”

“I’m fine, I promise. Enjoy the rest of the party,” I rush out, before heading upstairs to Theo’s room.

Knocking gently, I wait.

“Raine.” Millie’s face lights up as the door swings open. “Oh no, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” I smile weakly. “I’m over the party.”

“My brother upset you, didn’t he?”

“It doesn’t matter.” I slip past her.

“But—”

“Want to watch a film?” I ask, my eyes flitting to the bottom drawer of Theo’s dresser.

“Sure, I’ll warn you though. I’ll probably fall asleep.”

“That’s okay. I’m tired too.” I make quick work of stripping out of my clothes and into one of Theo’s rugby shirts.

We climb into bed and Millie turns the light off.

“How long do you think the party will go on for?” she asks.

“Too long,” I murmur, wondering if Theo’s even noticed I’m gone.
