“Oh. And breaking into my room, what was that?”

“You weren’t answering anyone’s messages. The girls were worried.”

The girls…

Of course they were the ones to send him here.

“Well, as you can see. I’m fine. You can go now.”

“I’ll give you some space to get dressed. Pizza good?”

“Pizza?” My brows furrow.

“You need to eat?—”

“I’m not hungry.”

“Tough shit. Get dressed and I’ll order.” He marches back into the bathroom, and I stand there, gawking after him.

This is bad.

Really bad.

I make quick work of stripping out of my soggy pyjamas and change into a set of clean clothes, forgoing the hoodie Elliot gave me.

A fresh wave of shame builds inside me as I take in the state of my room. It’s a mess.

Just like me.

I blink back the tears pooling behind my eyes.

“I didn’t know what you liked so I ordered something with meat and something plain.”

My gaze snaps to Elliot standing in the doorway, watching me. Assessing me like I’m an opponent he wants to take down.

Before everything happened, that look in his eye would have sent a small thrill through me.

Now I feel nothing.

“You didn’t have to do that.” I wrap my arms around my waist, holding myself together. “Like I said, I’m fine.”

“I cleaned up what I could in the bathroom,” he says. “I’ll get maintenance to stop by and replace your mirror.”

“Don’t,” I blurt before I can stop myself.

He stares at me with unforgiving intensity.

“It’s fine,” I stumble over the words. The lie. “I have another mirror out here. I don’t want to put anyone out.”

The look he gives me makes me wither inside.

“I’m tired.”

“It’s the middle of the day.”

“What are you doing, Elliot?” A weary sigh rolls through me.

“You’re shutting everyone out. It’s been weeks. You can’t?—”
