I have no idea how long I stand there staring at the building, hoping that she might leave as fast as she entered.

It’s for the best though. She needs to find a nice guy who can treat her right, who can understand what she’s going through, and help her find a way through it.

That guy isn’t me.

You held a pair of scissors to her thigh.

You are not the guy to help her through this darkness.

Not when you struggle to deal with your own on most days.

A pained sigh spills from my lips as I finally talk myself into moving but I barely take five steps when someone calls my name.

Looking up, I find Theo marching toward me.“Mate, you’re fucking soaked. Secret rendezvous in the woods with your secret date?”

A whole fresh wave of irritation rolls through me.

“It wasn’t a secret,” I mutter.

“Well, no. We all know it happened. You’re just holding out on giving us the details. I found her on Insta. She’s a fucking stunner, mate. You banged her, right? That why you’re being all cagey and shit?”

I bite on the inside of my cheeks, hoping the pain will be enough to help talk me down from laying him out right here in the middle of campus.

“No, I didn’t bang her,” I hiss.

“Ah, she not the first date fuck kind of girl? That sucks, mate. You could really use a good shag.”

“Why the fuck are you still talking?” I growl.

“Well, how about you start and I’ll willingly shut up. I want to know all about Miss Winrow,” he smirks.

“There’s nothing to tell.”

“You’re such a shitty liar,” he teases, making my teeth grind.

Despite wanting to argue with him, I keep my mouth shut and yank the door open, leaving Abigail and her new friend to it.

“What the fuck happened to you?” Oak asks when we get to our usual lunch table.

“Fuck off,” I scoff, dropping into a free chair.

“He needs to get laid,” Theo says, still not getting the hint that I don’t want to fucking talk about this shit.

“Well, yeah. That’s not fucking new, mate,” Reese agree, making me wonder what I didn’t just fuck off home.

Because Mr Porter will report to your father that you’re not in class. That’s fucking why.

“Did you see who Abi was talking to earlier?” Oak asks, really rubbing salt in the wound.

“She was talking?” Theo asks in surprise. “Is she doing better? Raine hasn’t said anything.”

“I’m not sure, but her and Ethan Smith looked pretty cosy earlier.” Theo shoves me in the arm. “You listening to this, mate?”

“Abigail is free to talk to whoever she wants. I’m not her fucking keeper.”

“No, but you want to be. Don’t you?”

“There is nothing between me and Abigail so cut it the fuck out,” I snap before pushing to my feet, ready to walk away from this bullshit.
