I only just manage to catch myself before I crush her beneath my much larger frame.

For long seconds we just lie there, our limbs intertwined, our skin slick with sweat and our chests heaving.

It’s everything I’ve ever wanted and so much more than I could have dreamed of.

“Can’t get enough of you,” Alana murmurs, much to my delight, long minutes later.

“Same, Doll. Same.” I chuckle, feeling like I could sleep again.

But just when I think I might close my eyes and give it a go, she expertly rolls from beneath me and hops to her feet as if she hasn’t just been fucked within an inch of her life.

She smiles down at me with such excitement and life in her light blue eyes, butterflies flutter wildly in my belly.

“I’ve got an idea,” she says, bouncing on the balls of her feet. “You with me?”

Pushing myself up so I’m sitting, I let my eyes roll down her body.

“Hell yeah, I’m always with you, Doll.”

“Good.” Before I know what’s happening, she’s out of the room, running along the hallway and down the stairs shouting, “Catch me if you can.”

“Fuck,” I hiss before jumping to my feet and taking up the chase. “Where are you going?” I call as my feet thump against the stairs.

I hit the ground floor as she pulls the slider open that leads to the deck. She darts through, her short, messy hair nothing but a flash of blonde in the sunlight.

With a smile spreading wider across my face, I continue my chase, although I do slow down, allowing her to get where she’s going.

My eyes are locked on her bare body as she races down the steps that lead to the private beach beyond.

Once she’s halfway down the beach and able to predict where this is going, I pick up the pace, more than ready to do this together.

The second I catch up to her, I snag her hand in mine and pull her toward the crashing waves.

“Ready?” I call, the water already splashing up our shins.

“Hell yeah, I’m ready,” she cries into the tranquility around us.

Together, we run into the water, and it’s not until we’re over waist-high that we slow down. However, when I look back at Alana, I find her in up to her chest.

Placing my arms behind her, I sweep her off her feet, and with a squeal and a splash, I tug her into my body.

“Skinny-dipping on your bucket list, Doll?”

“Isn’t it on everyone’s?” She laughs before I lift her high and throw her into the deeper water.

Her scream is cut off the second she goes under, and when she comes up, frantically wiping water from her face, I can’t help but laugh at her expression.

“You’re going to regret that,” she warns darkly.

My smirk grows. “Is that right?” I taunt, ready and willing to fight dirty.

“Oh, hell yeah.”

She pounces faster than I was expecting, but my reflexes are pretty good—or at least they are when I’m not fighting Reid Harris—and I catch her mid-air.

We play around, splash each other, and laugh like little kids, but despite my happiness, the whole time my heart aches for the woman before me because she never got to experience these kinds of simple pleasures as a kid. I mean, I’m not exactly swimming in heartwarming childhood memories myself, but I had good friends growing up and we had a lot of fun. Much more than Alana and Kristie ever did.

Catching my eyes and clearly able to read my dark thoughts, Alana muses, “She’d have loved this. We always talked about what a holiday at the beach might be like.”
