She smiles at me, and this time, I see a little more of the sister I remember.

“Hey,” she says. “You two look cute.”

Mav chuckles while my grin grows.

“How are you feeling?” I ask, cringing at the bullshit question.

She feels terrible, we can all see that, but still the words spill free.

“Dirty,” she says simply.

“I can run you a bath,” I offer. “The tub in there is huge.”

She thinks for a moment but eventually nods.

“Are you hungry? We can order anything you want,” Mav offers.

“W-where are we?” Kristie asks, looking around at her surroundings for the first time. “This place is insane.”

“The Broadway.”

Her eyes widen in shock.

“The Broadway?” she echoes. “They let me in here?”

“We came in via a private entrance and came straight up to the penthouse. No one knows we’re here,” I explain.

Kristie stares at me in disbelief.

“I’m sorry, did I wake up in the Twilight Zone?”

I can’t help but laugh. “I wonder that sometimes too.”

“You have three boyfriends and we’re in the freaking Broadway.”

“Two,” Mav says, making her brows pinch together.

“Pretty sure there are three of you.”

“Yeah,” I agree.

“But she only has two boyfriends. I’m her husband.”

If I thought Kristie looked shocked by all of this before then Mav’s confession proves me wrong.

“Her husband,” she muses, turning her eyes on me. “Right.” Silence falls as she digests that bit of information. “Any chance of coffee?”

“Y-yeah, of course. How would you like it?” Mav asks, helping me from his lap.

“Black and strong, please.”

“You got it, I’ll be right back,” he says before giving me a kiss and marching toward the door.

When I look up, I find Kristie watching me with an amused expression on her face.

“You’ve got some explaining to do, Mrs. Alana Murray.”
