“Did JD tell you what was going on tonight?” I ask, not wanting to think about Reid’s intentions for more empty bedrooms than I can count.

“Not in so many words. I think he was scared in case I couldn’t handle it.”

“Can you? Handle it, I mean?”

She shrugs. “I’m not sure what I’m capable of right now. But there’s only one way to find out.”

My lips part to say something, although I’ve no idea what, but I think better of it before any words spill free.

Instead, I turn my back on Harrow Creek and march toward the kitchen.

“You hungry?” I ask, pulling the fridge open to see what goodies Reid might have left us.

The sight of kids’ yogurts and snacks gives me pause. Daisy really has infiltrated every inch of Reid’s life.

“Uhh… yeah, I guess.”

An idea hits me and I pull the freezer open.

“I’ve got it,” I announce as Kristie drags out one of the bar stools and gently sits down.

“How are you feeling?” I ask as I gather everything I need.

She thinks for a moment. “Stronger. In control.”

I pause with a scoop in a huge tub of ice cream and look up at her.

“New starts for all of us begin tomorrow,” I tell her.

“What are they doing, Lana?”

With a sigh, I focus back on our food before embarking on an explanation that’s a little more detailed than JD’s earlier.

“Shit,” Kristie breathes once I’ve finished. “That’s… huge.”

I nod.

“Like, right now, Victor Harris could be dead and Reid could be in charge?”

“Maybe,” I muse, trying hard not to think too much about it. Although, I’m failing miserably.

“Have some faith. Your boys have got this. They’ll be back before you know it, looking to celebrate.”

God, I hope so. I really fucking hope so.

“Oh wow, they look incredible,” Kristie says when I finally unveil my masterpiece sundaes.

“I need comfort, so ice cream and Dis?—”

“Disney,” Kristie interrupts before taking off toward the living room.

“KK, we can’t eat those in there,” I call after her, unable to forget Reid’s rules about food in that room.

“Alana Murray, since when have you followed the rules?” she shouts back. “And anyway, these couches are so much better for a Disney fest than those in there.”

I follow her with our sundaes in my hands, the chocolate sauce is already running down the sides.

“If we make a mess, just flash him your tits and all will be forgotten,” Kristie says simply as I stand in the doorway. “You know it’ll work. That man is so gone for you. Hell, they all are. Have I told you what a lucky bitch you are today?”
