“I’m going to make lives better, not ruin them. We’re going to build this place back up and show people that there is another way.”

Warmth spreads across my chest before it quickly turns cool, and when I look down, I find a pair of tear-filled eyes staring back up at me.

“I’m so proud of you.” Her words hit me right in the heart.

Wrapping my arms around her, I hold her tight against me, hoping that she can feel how much I really do love her. I might not be as vocal as the others, but it doesn’t mean I feel it any less potently.

Time stretches on and we soak up each other’s warmth and support as the sun begins to rise on a new day outside.

A new day where everyone is waking to a new start.

Excitement flutters inside me at the thought.

Harrow Creek has no idea that everything is about to change for them.

Suddenly, Alana chuckles, her body jiggling against mine, dragging me from my thoughts.

“What’s so funny, Pet?”

“Nothing,” she whispers, fighting with her amusement.

“Oh yeah? If you’re not going to tell me then?—”

“I’m lying in bed snuggling with the new big bad leader of the Harrow Creek Hawks,” she blurts.

“And you think that’s funny?”

“Hell yeah. You’re a snuggler, Reid Harris. Admit it,” she teases as my fingers descend to her ribs, tickling until she squeals for relief.

“Maybe I am,” I finally concede. “But only with you.”

“Aw, JD is going to be so disappointed,” she deadpans before rolling off me and padding toward the bathroom.

“Where are you going?” I complain.

“To freshen up. Haven’t you heard, today is the start of a new dawn? We’ve got to be ready.”

Pushing up, I sit in the middle of my bed and watch as she slips into the bathroom before my eyes float to the window.

Oh yeah… new dawn in-fucking-deed.

ALANA

It didn’t take long for Reid to come and find me in the bathroom, and thankfully, enough time had passed by then that I could almost stably stand on two legs without the risk of my knees giving out.

Fuck.

Tonight was all kinds of epic.

The waiting part was hard. Really fucking hard. But the rush when I saw them standing there, back from war and desperate for me...

That is something that I’m not going to forget for a very very long time.

I have no idea where JD and Mav went, Reid said he thought his brothers and Griff followed them back, but if they did, then we haven’t heard them. I’ve been too lost in my men to care about much else going on in the world.

It’s early, the sun has barely risen above the horizon, but before we’re even halfway down the stairs after our prolonged shower, voices drift to us.
