“What’s up with you?” I asked.

She looked up at me, coloring further.

“Come on, Moira—”

“You’re a little difficult to be around.”

“What? Why?”

“Because you just… distract me.”

“Distract you from what, exactly?” I laughed, kicking off the counter and taking a step toward her. “I’m obviously not effecting your work—”

“No—”

“Because you’ve been working your ass off for the last week and half and barely said a word to me in the process—”

“I just—I just think about you. Too often.”

I settled a look on her, narrowing my eyes. She set her mug down and put her hands on her hips, looking more like the firecracker she was when we first met.

“Oh, yeah?”

“Yeah, I do. And I don’t think it’s a good thing because you’re myboss.”

“If it makes you feel any better, I consider you more of a business partner than an employee—”

“That doesn’t make me feel any better!”

I took another step toward her, trying to gauge the situation. She was red in the face now, and not from blushing.

“Are you… mad at me, for something?”

“Yes, I’m mad at you!”

“For what, Moira?”

“For—For—” She sucked in a breath, her hands clenched into little fists. She looked absolutely feral, and I had to admit I’d never been more turned on.

“Spit it out, sweetheart,” I growled, taking another step toward her. “Is this because we kissed?”

“No—”

“Then why can’t you stand me anymore?”

“It’s the opposite of that!”

“For fuck’s sake—”

“I thought about you when I… when I—” She turned crimson. “When I was… touching myself.”

I stood very, very still. She kept her eyes on mine, her chest heavy and a few beads of sweat peppering her brow. The air in the room shifted, and I didn’t realize I’d crossed the room until I had her caged against the counter, my hands on either side of the cabinet above her head.

“The next time you need a little… relief,” I whispered into her ear, against her neck, “come findme.”

She trembled, her mouth parting as I gently nipped the rim of her ear before I pushed off the cabinets and walked away, grabbing my coffee mug before I stalked out the back door.

The ball was in her court now. There was nothing I could do but wait.
