Of how I was willing to break my vow to Queen Amari and defile one of her precious Alices.

More than that, it was proof that I’d marked this one as my own.

When I hunted, I moved hard and fast...straight for the kill. When I drank blood, it was to the last deadly drop.

But when I tasted Alice’s blood...I’d stopped in time.

I’d let her live.

I don’t remember thinking about the reason why.

What if she was right, and I needed her more than she needed me? I’d said the words in a moment of desperation, before knowing that I actuallybelievedthem.

The realization hit me faster than lightning.

There was no ‘what if’ about it—shewasright.

I could never let her know.

I bit into my thumb again and let my blood drip onto the gash on her cheek. Within a few seconds, the wound knitted itself back together beneath my watchful gaze. Then I dipped the cloth into the warm water and washed away all evidence that I’d ever defiled her.

I sat back and rinsed the cloth in the basin, admiring the color of the water as it shifted from clear to red with Alice’s blood. I wrung it out and cast her an expectant look.

“What about your legs?”

Having been surrounded by ladies of noble birth for most of my existence, I was expecting Alice to slip her ankles out from beneath the covers.

Such modesty wasnotin her repertoire.

Alice pulled back the blankets to reveal her entire body, including the blood-stained apex of her tender thighs. Then she slid a bare leg right into my lap. Her foot rested mere inches away from the hard bulge in my trousers.

“Yeah? What about my legs?” she mocked.

I closed my eyes and took a long, slow breath. My cock throbbed in response as I took in the scent of fresh blood from her cycle mixed with her scent of arousal.

My lids snapped open and I shot her a hard stare of disapproval.

She merely smirked, and I almost lost my composure right then and there. It would’ve been so easy to drag her into my lap and pull her down on my cock.

Yet she thought I was the infuriating one?

Ignoring the firelight dancing across the naked, bleeding female body in my bed, I focused on healing the various injuries scattered across her supple skin, my touch as gentle as I could muster.

“How come you’re so warm?” she asked quietly. “Normally your hands are like ice.”

“Drinking fresh blood does that to me,” I replied through gritted teeth, focusing on a wound on her knee. I prayed that she wouldn’t ask more questions. To my great fortune, she kept silent.

With every touch, I fought against the urge to indulge in her once more. Somehow, I managed to restrain myself, focusing solely on the task at hand.

As I finished tending to the last of her wounds, Alice’s gaze met mine once again. This time, I caught a glimpse of something new in her eyes – perhaps it was a mixture of admiration and desire.

“Thanks for taking care of me,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “And for saving my life.”

“Of course,” I replied, trying to maintain my stoic demeanor.

“Those bunnies would’ve killed me if you hadn’t shown up when you did. How did you find me so fast?”

“I could smell you.”
