He’d worked his hand into her jeans. He got into my pants, literally. His fingers were slipping under the edge of her panties. He was touching her, and she was already wet and eager for him.

And his phone was ringing.

She thought he’d pull back.Stop caressing her.Answer the phone.

But he didn’t stop touching her.One hand stayed in her jeans.Brushing my clit.

His other hand grabbed for the phone he’d tossed on the desk.He caught it and swiped his finger over the screen before hauling it to his ear.“Foxx,”he snarled.

She arched harder toward him.

His fingers stretched and teased—

“Jase?”Oliver bit out.“What did you find for me?What did you—”

Horrified—because reality had just exploded past the passion—she caught his wrist and stilled his hand. Then she shoved his hand away from her.

Jaw locking, Oliver stepped back.

She hopped off the desk.Almost fell because her legs—specifically, her knees—seemed a little weak. Her hands fumbled before snapping and zipping up her jeans.Heat poured in her cheeks.

“It was a hunch.”

Her head snapped around at Oliver’s flat words. He’d turned his back to her.

“I’ll be there as fast as I can.No, no, I’m not coming back on officially. Not yet.You run this thing.Report to Executive Assistant Director Ballard what you find, but you damn well keep me in the loop.”

He talked a bit more, and she strained to hear him over the booming of her heartbeat as it echoed in her ears. There was something said about finding out how long Nate Quest had been in town. Why he was in Vegas.

And…

“Get his alibi,” Oliver directed.“For last night. We need to know exactly where he was.”He ended the call and spun to look at her once more.

His expression…

Her breath caught.

There was need, lust, fury—they all flashed on his face as he stared at her. Then, everything vanished. He blinked, and it was like a mask slid into place. The change was so sudden and so eerie that she shivered.

“That got…intense.”No emotion entered his voice. He seemed to simply be stating a fact.

And he was right.Things had certainly gotten intense.

“Why’d you kiss me, Lark?”Again, no emotion.

Her gaze swept over him.

“Oh, yes, sweetheart, I’m still aroused.Absolutely.”

She felt her flush deepen.

“Hardly surprising when I’m around you, though. You breathe and I want you.You smile at me, and I nearly go nuclear.”

Her brow scrunched.“Don’t lie to me.”

Oliver’s head inclined toward her.“Trying really hard not to do so again.”

She backed up.“How do you do that?”
