Rae flagged the server and waited for Devon to place her order before getting down to business.

“So, what did you need to discuss with me?”And why was Devon so adamant about talking in person, she wondered.

Without a drink in front of her yet, Devon seemed unsure of what to do with her hands. She took Rae’s used napkin and began tearing it into teeny-tiny pieces.

“Well, I’m not sure where to begin. It’s about Thomas Highsmith.” Devon paused when the server brought her glass of red wine. “Like I wrote to you, I read the article that was going around today, and when I saw that he was one of your clients, I knew I had to say something to you.”

“Do you know him?”

“Um, yes and no.”

Rae had known Devon for many years. She was a tough Domme who didn’t shy away from edgeplay like fire and blood cupping, but here she was looking pale and nervous. It scared Rae.

“He was a client of mine about a year back. Only did a couple of sessions with him, but he’s hard to forget,” Devon said. “As much as I enjoyed looking at him, I don’t think I had the look he wanted. Too many tattoos, so I wasn’t surprised when he moved on. Plus, he had referred someone to me, so I didn’t look at it as too big of a loss.”

Devon took a long drink of her wine, her green eyes shifting to the tables around them before landing back on Rae.

“So, the guy he referred to me told me about these parties. We’re talking private parties for the wealthiest elites in the state. The client told me I could make a week’s worth of earnings in one night of play. And you know we do private parties all the time. It’s not unusual, but this one was ... different.”

Rae took a pull of her beer, waiting for her friend to continue.

Devon leaned forward, her forearms on the table as she cradled her wineglass. “Rae, I went to my first party the week before last. On a Wednesday night.”

A tingle of dread tickled the back of Rae’s throat. Wednesday, the same day she last saw Thomas.

“He was there. Thomas was at that party, and he didn’t look happy about it.”

Something else was troubling Devon, Rae could tell.

“Tell me about this party.”

Devon’s eyes darted around at the other tables again as if she were worried someone might overhear them. Rae had to strain to hear her when she said, “It was likeEyes Wide Shuton steroids. No rules whatsoever. Scenes were going on everywhere, but I didn’t see a single dungeon monitor to watch over things, and a lot of the subs were clearly in distress. One submissive looked like she was completely drugged out on something, so I tried to help her to a quiet area, but some guy snatched her away from me.” Devon looked down at her wineglass, but she didn’t take a drink. “It wasn’t a safe place for anyone there outside of the rich white assholes running it, and there were alotof folks you would recognize there.”

“You mean other Dommes?”

“I mean politicians, Rae. I mean big-time business owners you see on commercials trying to sell you a mattress. It was like a who’s who of Oklahoma’s wealthiest, and it freaked me out. What they were allowing at that party ... if it was consensual, it didn’t look like it to me. So, I left before I was supposed to do a scene with some random sub they lined up for me.”

“What about Thomas? Where was he?”

“He was in a heated argument with some older man, and then I guess he left because I didn’t see him again. I didn’t recognize the man he was arguing with, but the guy briefly spoke with me when he offered me a drink. That was the other thing. Most of the people there weretrashed or high, especially the women. When I told the man it wasn’t safe to practice BDSM wasted, the motherfucker laughed and told me to lighten up.” She downed the rest of her wine.

“What did this man look like?” Rae said.

Devon thought a moment. “He was really tall. Like six five. And he had super-thick white hair with dark eyebrows and the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen. Like they almost seemed fake, they were so blue.”

“Holy shit, Devon, do you realize what this means?”

“It means you had nothing to do with whatever happened to Thomas, I know that much. But I knew that the moment I read that stupid article.”

“You have to tell the police all this.”

Devon’s eyes widened to the size of quarters. “I can’t.”

“You have to. It could help with the investigation. Plus, it sounds like a lot of illegal shit was going on at that party.”

Devon looked down at her empty glass. “I signed a nondisclosure agreement.”

“Are you fucking kidding?”
