“Honestly, I’m not too sure about Lucas anymore. I mean, where is he? I assumed once he returned home and realized I went missing, an entire fleet of his men would be out looking for me.”

“I don’t think he knows, Sabina, and if I had to guess, I think your father wants to find you before he has to explain. So I’ve been tracking him closely, and as of two days ago, he was in Prague.”

“Shit! What the hell am I going to do now?” I got up to pace the floor, and Lucy wrapped her arms around me.

“It’s okay; we will figure it out,” she said as I cried on her shoulder. “I’m sorry I yelled at you.” I pulled away from Lucy’s embrace and wiped away my tears.

“Lucy, thank you for helping me get this far, but this is where it ends. I can’t put you and Pierre in danger more than I already have.”

“Don’t you think you should let us decide that?” Pierre stepped up, putting his arm around Lucy.

“No, I will never forgive myself if something happens to you. You don’t know my father. He’s vicious, cold, and doesn’t possess a remorseful bone in his body.”

“Come on, Sabina, you are his daughter. He won’t hurt you.”

“Stop it, Pierre. You don’t know what you are talking about. He’s a killer, and I know what I am talking about because I witnessed it first-hand. I must leave as soon as possible before I bring any more danger to your front door.”

“What are you talking about?” Lucy questioned. I owed my friends the truth and have come too far to keep secrets from them now.

“My father murdered my mother and had plans to sell me off to an associate in his organization. I was to become a sex slave to him, another monster like my father. For all I know, he could still plan on doing that once he finds me. He is evil and rotten to the core. I hate him, and he hates me, and the last thing my father wants is to bring me home safely.”I hated to scare my friends, but I needed to tell them the truth.

Horrified after hearing what I said, Lucy covered her mouth and ran to the bathroom. Pierre was quickly behind her as she gasped and continued to throw up. After a few minutes, they both returned, and Lucy sat across from me. Her face flushed, and she took small sips of the soda Pierre had just handed her.

“I’m so sorry, Lucy, this is all my fault. I shouldn’t have said anything, and you’re throwing up because of me.”

“Yeah, you wish you could take all the credit.”

“What?” I said, and then she smiled back at me.

“No?” I gasped with new tears forming in my eyes.

“Yup! Just over two months, knocked up by the Frenchman over here,” she looked over her shoulder to Pierre, who seemed incredibly happy and so in love with his wife.

“You two are crazy for getting involved in helping me. I now have a bigger reason to leave here as soon as possible. I will nothave any harm come to your family. My father is a monster with no qualms about killing and taking innocent lives, including your unborn baby. I don’t mean to say these things to scare you, but it’s my truth, and I have to leave.”

“Sabina, you don’t have to decide right now,” Lucy said, reaching for my hands to comfort me. “Let’s take a breath, eat, and load you up on some good Tequila.”

“I thought you said you were out?”

“I said I didn’t have any wine in the house; I didn’t say anything about booze. But, Pierre, can you get the other man in our life?”

“Sure, be right back with Jose.” We both laughed and then hugged and cried with me keeping a secret—I’m leaving here as soon as they are asleep. They are the only friends I have that matter and give a damn about me. I will not allow harm to come to them.

I had no idea where I would go, but I knew it had to be as far away as possible. I suck at life on the run, and my time was almost up. Should I call my brother and take my chances that he could get to me before my father? It was worth a shot, and then I stopped myself from making another mistake. No, I must leave Rome before I do anything so my friends will be safe.

I checked my bag to ensure I had everything I had left London with, including the new documents Pierre had given me. All my original documents were in a safety deposit box in an undisclosed location, also arranged by Pierre. My friend had mad skills. I grabbed a new burner phone off the table, placed it in my bag, and quickly wrote my friends a note.

Don’t hate me because I love you enough to protect you.

Yours,

Sabina

I crept out as quietly as I could without waking them. Finally, I reached the end of the driveway and clicked the lock in place. I didn’t make it two steps before a hand covered my mouth.

“Don’t scream, Principessa; I’ve got you.” For some reason, I listened and obeyed. His scent was calming, and his touch wasn’t scary. I didn’t understand what was happening and why I was submitting under his command.

For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel afraid. I was being kidnapped right off the street and did not know what was in store for me. He was a stranger, or that’s what I wanted to believe. But, from the moment he was in my presence, there was something about him that I couldn’t let go of. I didn’t understand what was happening and why I wasn’t fighting harder to escape him. I only knew that I never felt safer in my captor's arms.
