“I’ve heard everything now,” I threw my arms up exasperatedly. Bourne didn’t appear to be bothered by it. If anything, he was more amused.

“Well? Hit me and then eat with me; what will it be?” Oh, he was smug.

“Okay, deal,” I said, and he looked surprised I would do it.

“Very well, Principessa, on the count of three. One, two,” and before I got to three, I hauled back and took my shot, but he was faster, probably anticipating I would go on two. He used hishand as a catcher’s mitt; my fist was the baseball. Three strikes, you’re out, and now I have to eat because I took the deal. He held my fist when he wrapped his hand around my wrist and pulled me closer until I was against his chest. His other arm linked around my waist, and with nowhere to go. Here’s some more truth: I liked it.

“I’m going to kiss you now, Principessa. Tell me now if you want me to stop.”

There was a second of hesitation, and then I knew there was no way in hell I would pull away, so I leaned in closer, and his touch became stronger when he took my mouth in a fiery kiss. His kiss was intense and electrifying. I wanted more. I craved more. I wanted him with every ounce of sexual need inside of myself, and just as I wanted to say the words, he pulled back. I was left breathless and now rejected, but that’s not what I saw in his eyes or felt against my body as he inched closer.

“It would be so easy to do a thousand and one naughty things to you right now, but you have to eat before you fall over, so I’m going to be a gentleman and choose sustenance over personal want and satisfaction.”

I didn’t know what to say and decided not to say anything as he led me out of the bedroom into the main cabin. My heart fluttered as I took in the beautiful setting he had arranged for dinner. Or he probably ordered someone to do it. But I didn’t care; it was beautiful with candles and flowers, another first I’ve never experienced until now. He pulled my chair out for me, and once I sat down, he placed a napkin on my lap and slowly pushed me forward to the table. Once seated, he lifted the silver domes, and my taste buds tingled in anticipation.

“Sicilian sliced breast of duck with orange zest,” I would know this dish anywhere because it was my favorite. “How did you know?” I questioned as I stared into his amusing eyes.

“Sometimes a man gets lucky,” he offered no other explanation and poured the wine as I took my first forkful of the delicious delicacy. I wanted to moan the minute the fork hit my tongue, but I held back, not giving him any more ammunition to use against me. I savored every bite and did not stop chewing until I cleaned my plate. Finally, I sat back in contentment while finishing off the fantastic wine.

“You look pleased with yourself,” I said, placing my wine glass down. Bourne held the bottle and offered me a refill. “Be my guest; get me drunk,” he chuckled and poured the wine.

“Now, what fun would that be? I am not fond of plying women with alcohol to get them where I know you want to be.”I rolled my eyes, trying to appear unaffected, but I was failing miserably, and he knew it.

“No, I prefer females in my company to be responsive and very willing.”

“Clearly, you’ve done this before,” she gestured at the table.

“And? What would that be? I’m intrigued with what you will say next.”

“No, I think I’ve said enough for one night.”

“Very well, but come find me when you’re ready to talk. We have time.”

CHAPTER SEVEN

Bourne

Leaving Sabina was torture, knowing she wanted me to stay. Yes, I know she didn’t say the words, but she can’t deny what is between us, nor can the laws of attraction. What surprised me more was she didn’t remember meeting me, and if she did, she’s keeping it all to herself, which makes me want her more. Of course, our age difference should be considered, but I hope it will be immaterial.

I sat behind my desk, trying to work, but all my thoughts centered on the lovely princess just a few feet away. Why didn’t she remember me? I was probably obsessing too much over it and knew I had to stop, or it would complicate matters even more between us. And I still have to deal with Marco and his need to want his daughter dead.

From the minute Marco contacted me, I knew he conveniently omitted many layers to his story. When a professional contract hit is open, it’s sent worldwide to the consortium networkof enforcers. It’s just a matter of time before the target is eliminated. It didn’t take long for Edric to uncover the truth, and once I knew Sabina had a target on her back, we fast-forwarded our extraction of her. She needed to be protected, and running from her father and his enemies was a surefire way of getting killed.

“Atwater,” I said as I picked up my cell phone without checking who it was.

“Bourne, all the arrangements have been made, and the staff is ready for your arrival,” said Kaz.

“Excellent, but it’s limited, correct?”

“Yes, bare minimum and trusted staff that know how to be discreet.”

“Thank you, Kaz. I could not have pulled this off without your help. Do you have an update on the other task I gave you?”

“Yes, the Goddards are well and safe. You were right, Bourne, a hit was in play on the young couple, but our team got to them first. We had a window of seven minutes after you got Sabina out of there.”

“Shit, fucking Marco strikes again,” I muttered into the phone.

“It was a close call, but nothing we haven’t done before. The contract is canceled, and the threat is neutralized.”Not all threats. Marco is still breathing.I thought as Kaz went on. “The important thing is that they are safe and far away from Rome, but there’s more,” she paused.
