“A MIAC Z-12 was stolen from a NATO base outside Catania three days ago. It matches exactly the one used in Sabina’s abduction. Bourne, no one under my rule is involved in this. Ican say that with a hundred percent certainty. I have dispatched two teams of twelve mercenaries to Lucas’s compound to lend your aid if needed. They are in position and ready to strike with just one call.”

“Why are you doing this for me? You hardly know us at all,”

“You’re right, I don’t, but do you recall what I said to your Sabina on that day back in London?”

“Yes, it was something about clipped wings and wanting to fly. I’m sorry I can’t remember the rest; my mind is drawing a blank.”

“I said,“Another fragile dove with clipped wings begging to fly and to be free.”I knew who she reminded me of from the moment I met her. I, too, fell in love with a fragile dove, and a long time ago, she had been hurt and left broken until she met me, and we healed each other. Your Sabina reminds me of my Willow, and I promise you, Bourne, she will fly again and return to you. You have my unwavering support; anything you need, you shall have.”

“Thank you, Valentin; yes, I need all the help I can get, but promise me one thing,”

“Name it,” he said.

“I get to be the one who kills him,”

“I couldn’t agree more.” An hour later, we were in the air and headed for Italy. I was thankful for the new Airbus plane we acquired once we touched down in Australia. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use my aircraft since it was compromised by whatever software Lucas used to track it in the first place. A complete overhaul of our systems would have to be performed as soon as I get my girl back. I sighed and hated to feel trapped on this plane, and with the full day of flying ahead of us, I would be breathing on fumes by then, but I would do anything possible to get back to Sabina. Valentin had contacts worldwide and could be anywhere at a moment's notice. I will never regret contactinghim for help and will be forever in his debt. However, my mind kept returning to our last moment together, and I hated myself for how we left things. As much as Pierre tried to reassure me that she was happy and looked forward to seeing me, I wouldn’t believe anything until I could see and hear the words from Sabina herself. God, I was an ass, and I will never forgive myself if something happens to her and I don’t get one more chance to tell her how much I love her.

SABINA

My head felt fuzzy and my limbs heavy as I struggled to open my eyes to see where I was. When they finally opened, Luca’s face was the first one I saw. He was sitting in a chair reading a book, and once he knew I was awake, he came over to reach for my hand. I jerked it away and told him not to touch me.

“Lucas, what have you done to me?” I rasped, my throat hurting a little. He saw my discomfort and poured me a glass of water, which I refused until he grabbed me by my chin and forced my mouth open.

“Stop being difficult and drink the water,” he demanded. “It’s no wonder your throat is hoarse; you screamed for hours until I had no choice but to knock you out.”

“You drugged me? You’re just like him!” I screamed as loud as my voice would allow before I began coughing from the strain.

“No, you’re wrong, Sabina; he was a cold-blooded killer. I am your brother and have loved you since you were born. Yes, I failed you in the past and owned those misgivings, but I swearI will not fail you again. You don’t belong to Bourne; don’t you see that he is using you to hurt me. Whatever he has promised you is just one lie after another and cannot be trusted. I swear you are nothing but a means to an end in the name of revenge. Our family took his sister, so he decided to take mine. I tried to explain all of this to you, but you refused to listen to me, but now you’re home where you belong, and it’s time for our family to heal.”

“You’re insane, Lucas, you have to believe Bourne is probably on his way here, and if you know anything about him, you must know he will never stop until he rescues me.”

“Rescue you? Hmm, that’s rich since he’s the one who kidnapped you first. You’re confused and used as a weapon against our family and me, but you’re safe now.”

“I was safe with Bourne!” I shouted, feeling the burn in my throat. You are the one who is wrong here, and I don’t even know who you are anymore. The brother I used to know who loved me would never hold me against my will. I begged you back in Rhode Island not to force me home, but you refused to listen. Please, Lucas, hear me now; Please let me go.”

“Get some rest, Sabina, and a food tray will be delivered soon. Please try to eat.”

“Fuck you! I defended you and begged for your life, and this is how you treat me?”

“No one asked you to ask for clemency for me. Of course, I will always be sorry for not being the brother I should have been, but don’t you see? We can start over, and I will do anything to gain your trust.”

“If you want me to trust you, then let me go! This prison is not my home, and it never felt like one. Mama and Papa are dead, and if you don’t wish to join them, let me go,” I tried again to make my brother see reason, but he refused, turned, and walked away without another word. “You can go to hell. Bourne lovesme, and he will kill you when he gets here, so you better be ready. Do you hear me, Lucas? Be ready.” I vehemently shouted with all the strength I had left. Lucas closed the door behind him, and I heard the lock click into place. My head was pounding from whatever drugs he injected me with. I sat up as best as possible and held my head, crying into the pillow. I silently prayed for Bourne to save me once again.

BOURNE

Ahorrific storm delayed us by a few hours while flying over London, of all places. I nearly took over flying the plane when the pilot threatened to land at Heathrow. Edric calmed me to the best of his ability, but I was too furious to listen.

I was wound up to my breaking point when we finally landed in Italy. I feared my rage might serve as my unraveling and break the last vestiges of my sanity. Instead, I focused on Sabina and the future I promised we would have. I released a calming breath and found my purpose. I would rescue Sabina and kill Lucas. There would be no way he could walk away and get to live after attacking my island and taking Sabina from me. As if he could read my mind, Oleg looked over at me and nodded. Valentin could not come himself for obvious reasons, but he sent Oleg in his place. Our plane landed on a private airstrip one mile from the airport and was perfectly secluded.

Edric and I wore Kevlar protection, including helmets we would wear when we raided the house. I was going in with theteam, and no one could stop or change my mind. Oleg called Valentin en route to the Santoro compound. It was just after ten, and we had the advantage of the night. Once we get closer, they will know we are here. The mercenaries are in place and positioned along the fence line throughout the entire property. Sabina had told me about the location of the property she used to escape months ago. I followed the exact route, taking it one measured step at a time. I felt her presence with me, and soon, she would return to my arms where she belonged. One by one, we climbed through the considerable gap in the fence and made our way to the main house.

Who knew back then that when she was sharing her story with me, it would become essential to her surviving yet another kidnapping from her brother. In his thick accent, Oleg instructed his twelve men where to be positioned and then to our six. Edric and I would go together in hopes she was in her childhood bedroom.

We confirmed in our wireless mics one last time, and all was a go. Oleg’s men would shoot out a few blasters to get their attention, and we expected them to return fire. Once they were out in the open, our men would take them out at all costs.

“Bourne, we will get her out, I promise,” he crawled beside me. I stared up at the mansion and seethed with unbridled anger. “We’ve fought wars together and have faced stronger enemies than Lucas Santoro. Do I have to remind you of the last battle against a Santoro?”

“I remember everything, Edric, and so does Lucas. I will tear him apart if he has harmed one hair on her head, and no one will stop me.”
