Knight says, “Hit us with it. I’m sure it will be fine.”

“We have to tell our parents.” I’m not sure how I expect my brothers to react, but Knight’s smirk isn’t it.

“Consider it done.”

Wendy bites her lower lip and catches Knight and Axel nodding at me. Before she can ask what’s up I go for it.

“We want you to understand how committed we are to you, even if it means giving you more space than we want.” I reach into my pocket and pull out a black box, opening it to display the diamond ring. “When the time is right, this ring is yours.”

Her hands fly to her mouth and her first few attempts at words come out garbled. Knight rubs her back, helping her calm down.

“When did you buy this?”

“Knight had it before your wedding. And when this group thing happened, we took it to the jeweler to modify it to represent all of us.”

It’s beyond gorgeous. I suck in a breath to calm my threatening tears. “That’s so sweet. But why would you do that?”

Axel says, “We knew we wanted to marry you.”

Knight adds, “And wanted to knock you up. If you didn’t notice, we didn’t ask about birth control.”

“So I’m not crazy for being careless,” she asks.

“It’s fine, as long as you’re only with us,” I say.

Knight explains, “I bought it before I ever had sex with you, even though you couldn’t know that. I hoped that if you ever got worried about why we were with you, we could use it to show how far we’d fallen for you. We weren’t just with you because you’re the best sex any of us have ever had.”

Axel quips. “Especially Nova.”

I glare at him. No time for sibling bickering though.

Knight says, “Remember the fortune?”

She nods. “You might be as caught in fantasies if you think a fortune could tell you we were supposed to get married.”

“Trust me. I’ve never paid attention to wisdom from a cookie. But, I got the fortune at your eighteenth birthday party. I had just broken the cookie open and was reading it when I overheard you accepting a marriage proposal.”

“No way.”

“Full honesty. That’s what happened. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I slipped it into my wallet. I’d denied my feelings for you, and the whole idea of marrying my sister seemed ridiculous until everything started falling into place.”

I steal the show back from Knight. “We love you for who you are. We watched you defy Dad and join roller derby. We watched you choose your own career path in graphic arts instead of number crunching or market analysis or any of the other jobs Dad approves of. We watched you take control of your future when you realized he was using you to advance his business—”

“You meanlegacy?” Wendy laughs.

“That too. Those are just the big things. You’re strong. You’ve always known who you are. And if someday you choose to addour wifeto that list, it’ll be our honor.”

“Seeing myself through your eyes, I don’t feel nearly as screwed up.” She extends her hand and we stare at it before I realize what she’s doing. I fumble the box. Axel catches it. Knight grabs the ring and slides it on her finger.

“I’m more than ready to be your wife. And since I’m probably pregnant, the sooner we do this, the less explaining we’ll have. So you’re good with telling our parents?”

“We are,” Knight says emphatically. “In fact, we had a long talk with Dad and Mom this morning. He called us, furious at what we’d done in the sex club and we told him to come say it to our face. So he did. We’ve been talking to them all morning.”
